dime magazine claims that steve francis is the true MVP of the league. http://www.dimemag.com/smack.asp Though he may not garner a single vote, Stevie Francis is the L’s true MVP. The Rockets are just 1-17 without the Franchise but are an incredible12-9 with him in the lineup. Last night against Beantown, Wink had a triple-dip through three quarters but added to his total in the 4th to finish with 26 points, 15 boards and 10 dimes.
What a joke, he is an all star player but not even in the top 10 IMHO. DaDakota And in case you were wondering. Kobe Shaq Garnett Duncan Webber Jordan Nowitski Carter McGrady Iverson Just to name 10 better players.
Steve is the most valuable player in the NBA. If the Rockets were a 1-5 seed, I'm sure he'd be considered. But with our horrible record, Kidd (who was just featured on the nat'l news) or Kevin Garnett will definitely (and deservedly) win it.
It's kind of a moot point to talk about whether he is better than any of the 10 players on that list. But the fact that the rockets are 1-17 without him and 12-9 with him sure refutes the statement by this Bob Kemp idiot that Francis is what keeps the Rockets from winning games.
mid season mvp list: 1.kidd 2.jordan 3.shaq 4.kobe 5.garnett 6.duncan 7.francis 8.iverson 9.peirce 10.webber
The real top 10 best players 1.Kobe 2.Shaq 3.McGrady 4.Carter 5.Iverson 6. Garnett 7. Webber 8. Francis 9. Duncan 10. Kidd
I really can't see how Kidd can be considered an MVP contender. He's having a decent season, sure, but compare it to some of Stockton's better years: Stockton would get something like 13-14 assists per game (to Kidd's 10 this year), shoot between .520 and .560 from the field (to Kidd's .375 this year), and get about the same number of steals. Look it up. Point is, Stockton was never anywhere near getting voted as the league MVP, so I wouldn't give Kidd much of a shot either. Not that it makes Franchise's case any better. It's pretty rare that point guards win MVP anyways, especially when there are dominant big men on winning teams.
Does MVP = Best Player in the League?? I've had many debates over that with my friends over the years. We have (sort of) come to the agreement that you can be the best player, without being the MVP. Comments?
If MVP = best league player, then that goes to Kobe. MVP by team, relatively speaking, I can see how Steve would contend for that spot. 1-17 when he's gone, and 12-9 when he's here... Pretty dramatic impact. It would be more dramatic if we were 20-1 when he's with us... Until then, it's Kobe's honor to lose.
As good as those guys are, I don't think you can put anyone ahead of Shaq just by sheer dominance. Francis is kind of in the old Grant Hill in detroit thing. They're a good competitive team with him and pretty bad without him mainly because the sytem that Rudy designed, but I don't think he's a top 10 player in this league yet. He maybe be top 15-20, but not top 10. I would have to start any list of most valuable players with Shaq first. He is probably the only player you can put on any tem and they'll be the favorites in their division. Thats the clear advantage Kobe has over the other 2 guards in the league and the advantage LA has over the league. They have 2 top 10 players on the same team.
mid season mvp list: 1. Francis 2. Jordan 3. Kidd 4. Garnett 5. Duncan 6. Kobe 7. Pierce 8. Webber 1.Kobe 2.Shaq 3.McGrady 4.Carter 5. Francis 6. Webber 7. Garnett 8. Pierce 9. Duncan 10. Kidd
Francis MVP? Come on guys, he hasn't played 1/2 the games. Anyone want to bet that his Migraines don't stop him from playing in the all star game? DaDakota
again.....i thought i was the biggest houston homer in the world until i started frequenting these boards.... francis as mvp??? are we watching the same league?? maybe you mean Bob Francis who's a bowler or something...or maybe Frank Francis is the name of some great table tennis champion....but I KNOW you don't mean Steve Francis is the most valuable player in the National Basketball Association.
