Scoring is balanced lately, but Tmac's shooting needs to improve

All 5 starters have been averaging double digits in scoring over the past which is a big improvement. Rafer has been on his A game lately. If he can keep playing around that level most nights, then Tmac breaking out of his shooting slump could bring us from barely being a playoff team to potential contender regardless of any trades. Of course everyone staying healthy will also be key.

Starters Shooting over the past 5 games:

Tmac: 22-70 for 11.4 pts per game
Yao: 40-77 for 23.2 pts per game
Alston: 29-63 for 15.8 pts per game
Scola: 24-37 for 11.2 pts per game
Battier: 19-44 for 10 pts per game

Scola having more made shots while taking a whopping 33 less attempts than Tmac means we probably need to call more plays for Scola.

None of this matters if we are winning. Tmac has been playing great teamball and showing much more hustle in these recent games. He is making everyone around him better so I don't see the reason for complaning about his shooting.

T-Mac did drive to the basket several times against Cleveland, which is a step in the right direction. He isn't the strongest finisher in the world, but he makes the team much better when he's aggressive going towards the basket instead of fading to the outside and chucking.

It ALL matters EVEN when we are winning...remember in the begining of the season where we had alot of problems with deph, but you guys just turned the other way and said WELL AS LONG AS WE ARE WINNING...then we sucked A** for a long period...until we addressed this problem with the emergence of scola, landry, and brooks. We are having another problem, and the rockets NEED TO ADDRESS it quickly before it bites us in the butt.

T-Mac looked really good tonight, just he ball wasn't going in. He was agressive, looked for his shot, and looked to take it to the rim and shoot jumpers off of off ball movement. He will break out of this slump soon enough.

Barring a miracle, T-Mac will always be a streaky outside shooter. So the important thing is how well he can take it to the hoop... especially come playoff time.

It's unfortunate to admit, but T-Mac today just isn't the T-Mac of old days. He's no longer a superstar scorer he once was. But if he can just lay off enough bad 20ft jumpshots and be a "super role player", our overall talent is still enough to win.

TMac is a still a superstar....his confidence has been barred by injury....He is playing within the team game concept and enduring a transition himself....He will find a good balance soon after this transition....

Opps stats must not have updated for Cleveland game when I looked on ESPN.com earlier, actual comparison over 5 games including tonight is:

Tmac: 23-73 for 12.4 pts on 31.5% shooting
Yao: 40-79 for 23.2 pts on 50.6% shooting
Alston: 30-64 for 16.6 pts on 46.8% shooting
Scola: 24-37 for 11.2 pts on 64.8% shooting
Battier: 19-42 for 9.6 pts on 45.2% shooting

Tmac did play pretty well in the second half tonight and as long as we are winning it is "OK" I guess. I just don't expect Rafer to continue to average 16 pts on 46% shooting indefinitely, which means we need Tmac to get back on track shooting wise soon.

did u see him at the beginning of this year? he was as explosive and dominant offensively as ever.

the injuries have slowed him down like always as he has to recover his quickness/explosiveness/rhythm/confidence.

he was just as bad to start last yr shooting 35% for an ENTIRE MONTH.

the team played well and i like the way they played, even our stars disappeared tonight. the important thing is other players won confidence and lowered dependence on tracy & yao. alston is improving fast.

Our GM said it best. The most important thing on offense is efficiency. TMac hurled just about twice as many shots as Scola but scored about the same number of points. When TMac doesn't attack but settles, he's really quite terrible.

When it is not working, try something else. It is ridiculous that he keeps chucking when he is not hitting. Stop throwing it up, DRIVE. Wow, it is not rocket science. Take it in, draw the foul, and hit the freebies, please.

When he is hot he can shoot other teams off the court, when he is cold, he shoots his team into a hole. Not smart, and he has been doing this for years. Is there ever going to be some semblance of a learning curve?

He WAS attacking...just missed layups. He is not a slasher, he is a jumpshooter...always has been, ever since Orlando. He is one of the best midrange jumpshooters in the league...get him enough of those shots, let him get into a rythym, and you have your superstar scorer.

its both yao and tmac that is sucking. both yao and mac missed very makable shots. it would have been a blowout earlier had they made their shots.

Um....he did exactly that today. His first couple of shots early were layups. He missed them, but he wasnt just settling for bad jumpshots all game. The only jumpers I saw him take(didnt see the whole game) were the 3 he got fouled on at the end of the shot clock, and jumpers off the pick that he is supposed to take within the offense.

He was driving alot more today, and got the foul call I think once, twice?? T-Mac hasn't been getting the fouls called much at all this year.

I think you meant to post this in a post game thread from 2 months ago.

He should reduce his 3 point shooting considerably. I am much more comfortable with his mid-range shooting.
