Anyone on here grab this? I know we had an RPG thread that went about 15 pages on here, so I figured some may have heard of it. I played it for about 5 hours last night. Very well made game. It was made by Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy fame. The game is 4 DVDs long and has good voice acting, good magic and fighting system (turn based), and amazing cinematics. I recommend it to those 360 owners who have been hungry for a good Squaresoft-like RPG, as Blue Dragon was a complete letdown in my eyes.
I'd be interested to get your and some other people's opinions on this game once they've played it all the way through. It's one of the dwindling reasons I wish I had a 360, since I don't care about Bioshock or Halo, and Gears is on the PC...
I haven't picked it up yet...I was nosing around at gamestop a couple days ago and didn't see it out. Will definitely be buying it before the end of the month...it looks just great.
I havent had any problems with the load times. Nothing that makes the game unplayable. Im about ten hours in and Im enjoying the hell out of it. Almost wanna call in to work tomorrow so I can stay home and play it uninterrupted.
Dammit... you're making me want a 360... Is it as good as FFX? Assuming you liked FFX, I don't recall if you did, from that epic RPG thread... I only name FFX specifically because I think that was the last traditional RPG I really enjoyed. Can you make any kind of comparison on how it stacks up to other great RPGs? Or is it way too early for that?
I notice that while the reviews were 'decent', a lot of the boards I go to really like this game. I might have to give this a shot after I finish Mass Effect.
I tried twice to get into FF12. Farthest I got was about 7 hours in, and I was just totally failing to care. Didn't like the battle system, wasn't connecting with the characters. It felt like work. The lack of total control over the combat with the Gambit system kinda bothered me. High-quality game, yes. I just wasn't particularly enjoying it. Maybe I'll give it one more shot eventually... but I'm gonna be playing Rogue Galaxy and Shadow Hearts: Covenant before I do. So it could be a looooong time.
I didn't really check out many reviews, but I think some of the ones I saw dissed the game for not bringing anything new to the RPG genre. I could never understand complaints like that. I haven't played the game, but I can probably imagine how you'd get differing views from message boards.
Drexler, I wasnt the biggest fan of FFX...or XII. IMO, Final Fantasy hasnt been up to par since maybe FFIX. However, I could see this game being compared the most to FFX. Battle system is about identical. RC Cola pretty much nailed it on the head: It doesnt bring a whole lot new to the genre, but what is wrong with that? If it aint broke, dont fix it.
Ahhhhh. Dangit! I loved FFX (step down from CC, CT, XG, & FF7, but still great), and if this game seems like FFX, I need to play it! Clearly I'll need to pick up a 360 one of these days.
Really? My girlfriend is nuts about Oblivion because she likes the real time fighting. But I prefer my RPGs to be turn based. I cant do real time fighting in first person, Im just plain lousy at it. Unless it is like Secret of Mana or something like that, I prefer turn based fighting.
i bought this gamewhen it came out last week, and it is awesome. If you are a fan of turn based RPG then this game is for you. Im about 10 hours in and loving it. Great game, loading times are definitly not an issue at all.
I've enjoyed turn based rpg in Fallout 1 & 2. I've enjoyed other rpg's such as Balder's gate and PC games. I never played any Final Fantasy, because I heard that it was largely cut scenes rather than action, and the anime style of it, kind of bothered me. I'm not saying I was right to write the FF series off, but I did. That being said, this game intrigues me. Given the tastes in games I mentioned before, as well as a slight distaste for the anime style, would anyone who has been playing recommend the game for someone like me?
If cutscenes annoy you, this may not be your game. They arent Xenosaga long, but there are quite a few of them. With the game being 4 DVDs, I imagine there will be even more of them still.
So I went out and grabbed the game based on you guys' comments. At first, I didn't think much of it, but suprisingly, the little memory/stories were pretty interesting even though you are just reading. I seem to suck at the game though, I typically have to retry the story-driven encounters a lot, hahaha. Spoiler And when you run into Kaim's daughter and she passes away, mang! I felt bad for the kids. Not too often a game actually tugs at the heart strings. Ok, that does not leave this thread...hahaha
Bumping the thread because while I bought it a few weeks ago, I'm finally getting into it recently. So far I think it's absolutely fantastic. It might as well be a Final Fantasy game, it certainly has that feel, which would make sense considering it's origins. It may look archaic with the old school turned based fighting, but it seems like they've taken every good thing that's shown up in an RPG and put it in their for our enjoyment. Button timing during battle for extra interactivity, front and back rows, skill linking, learning spells and skills from items (FF9 like), and even having really simple stuff like a "heal" option on the main menu instead of having to go to items or spells. They also included an incredibly fast running sprint button, which seems silly to mention, but is super nice to have, especially in a day when games keep getting bigger and bigger. It's just polished, and looks gorgeous to boot. On top of that Kaim is one of the most awesome main characters in RPG history. Jansen is pure gold as well for his comic relief. That was a brutal scene....but well done.
