I agree 100% with this HDMI/DVI is noticeably sharper than component...but component does tend to look 'warmer' as far as colors go but like Drexlerfan, I much prefer the sharper look rather than soft/warm colors
All of our DVD's are upstairs in the two bookshelfs around the TV, you can see them in the gameroom pics I posted. Games are in the top drawer of the armoire downstairs and gaming accessories are in the bottom drawer. I have three guitars for Guitar Hero and Rock Band, they are in the corner to the left of the armoire. Those are the only things out really and I could fit them in the drawers as well if I wanted.
Microsoft released a response: 1 hour, 54 minutes ago Reuters SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) does not expect sales of its Xbox 360 game console to suffer if Toshiba Corp (6502.T) discontinues HD DVD technology, Microsoft said in a statement on Monday. "We do not believe the recent reports about HD DVD will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace," the company said. "We will wait until we hear from Toshiba before announcing any specific plans around the Xbox 360 HD DVD player." Xbox 360 supports a plug-in HD DVD accessory that allows customers to view high definition DVDs produced only with this Toshiba technology. Toshiba sources said on Saturday that the company is preparing to exit the HD DVD business, thereby surrendering a two-year battle to control the format of next-generation DVDs. Customers would be left to buy high-definition DVDs produced with Blu-ray, an alternate technology controlled by Sony Corp (6758.T). The Microsoft statement pledged that Xbox 360 customers would continue to be able to consume high-definition movies, television programs, and DVDs they already own. In January, a Microsoft executive said the company would be open to supporting Blu-Ray technology for its Xbox 360 machine.
No poor schmucks with the HD DVD add on= partially owned. Me with superior Xbox360 gaming console=The opposite of owned=anti-owned Schmucks that bought PS3 for the games=owned Schmucks that bought PS3 for the blu ray player=neutral
is that the best you can come up with? no one runs with that old shtick anymore, except the hardcore of the hardcore fanboys. i read a report that toshiba lied about the one million hd-dvd players being sold. they only sold 720,000 and rounded up. over half of the players were the 360 hd-dvd add on. i guess a good estimate would be 300k for stand alone players in almost two years. that's pretty bad considering how cheap their players were.
not too bother I have a blu-ray player (probably give it to my sister though so I can get a ps3 "blu-ray player") and the addon for the 360. I dont really care I'll still buy HD-DVDS I can still play them and they still look great it really doesnt change anything for me. If anything I may just buy some more HD-DVDS in a few months when stores are trying to get rid of their inventories. Of course after that I'll just get blu-rays. I dont think this is terrible I do feel bad for all those people, like a co-worker of mine who bought a hd-dvd player over the christmas holidays and now are screwed if they bought it hopes of it being the format that wins. the thing that got me really upset is samsung not willing to further support my player thats why i am getting a ps3 instead as a player. They havent done too many firmware updates to the player and there is a lawsuit that was brought to them over this. Of course I wont get any of that money really even if they win, it'll be like a 40 dollar off your next samsung player. my player has played everything i've put into it except 3:10 to Yuma. but the fact that it wont be 2.0 compatible bothers me. Sucks cuz its a really great upconverter too, on par with some of the Toshiba models. oh well
yoyo, which samsung player do you have? the 1000,1200, or 1400.. i can get them really cheap, but i've read that they have issues.
i have the 1200...i love the player it upconverts really nicely and I havent had any issues in terms of playback other than 3:10 but I read that the last firmware update didnt correct that issue and samsungs isnt planning to do any major upgrades to the player in the future. this includes profile 2.0 which upsets me because if this player was going to have continued support it was a perfect player for me. It doesnt decode the super high end audio formats but that can be passed through HDMI but i dont have a high-end audio receiver than can do those formats. I am waiting to buy one of those after I get a house, no point of it right now. the issues I have are the load times, at times if a movie wont load i open and close the tray and it will load fine and quickly. only reason why i am going with a ps3 over another player at this point is that I know there will be continued support for the ps3 because its like 70-75% of the blu-ray "players" out there
good news for some, bad for others...overall, one format is great...but without competition, prices have nowhere to go but up...
Not to single you out, but this is the most ignorant retort HD DVD fans/Sony bashers in general make today regarding the death of HD DVD. Take a freaking econ class, and you'd see that this statement is pure bull****. There are MANY manufacturers of Blu-Ray (versus ONE for HD DVD, BTW), and although there is now only one HD format, these companies are still in competition with EACH OTHER for sales. Because surely, we're all still paying $500 for a DVD player and $30 for a DVD movie, right?
the blu-ray market will be competition in itself hopefully. Not to bash blu-ray or sony but they can still lose out to DVD.
With the format settled, everyone can push their full weight behind it, which means limited production becomes mass production and the emergence of off-brand players to lower the price down. Blu Ray will be as much a "high priced monopoly" as DVD and VHS became. Evan
TIsk tisk, i saw this day coming just a matter of time. although i do own both the ps3 and the xbox360 i prefer the ps3 just cuz u get ur moneys worth. xbox is too sketchy and it fails on you which is totally uncalled for. anyways 08 will be the year for the ps3 so ill just wait patiently for gran turismo 5, mgs4, res evil 5, ff13, kill zone 2...heh i could go on forever.
b b b but the xbox has better games! you can't play mass effect (over rated), gears of war or halo 3 on the ps3 so that means the ps3 has no good games!
