Read this from the personal blog of the freelance Sina.com reporter Mu Gong, who is based in Houston, and regularly posted news/update about Yao Ming and the other Rockets for fans.

    http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_4d339ee00100960x.html

Need you guys who might happen to go and watch the Rockets in Toyota Centre whether Mu Gong is reporting things that genuinely happen.

He wrote about 3 things that Yao Ming usually does before every game starts.

First, during the pre-game shootout, Yao Ming would always look for Uncle Mutombo and play one-on-one with him. When one player manages to score on the other, they will switch role in offense and defense. Such one-on-one helps Yao Ming a lot when the game starts.

The second thing Yao Ming would do is that a Rockets security guard named Bucher would wait with a basketball outside at the 3-pointer line for Yao Ming. Yao Ming would oblige and go up to beyond the arc to shoot a 3-pointer. Bucher would hope that Yao Ming could not make the trey as they are sort of gambling. If Yao Ming makes the trey, Bucher has to pay Yao Ming the bet he placed. And if Yao Ming fails to hit the 3-pointer, he would have to pay Bucher. Up till now, Yao Ming owes Bucher some US$ 400.

The third thing that Yao Ming does is that when they have to sing the US national anthem before the game, Yao Ming would be the first to get up from the bench and will go to help pulling Tracy McGrady up from the bench.

    So anyone to confirm? :D

I sense a stab at Obama being made with the anthem line. ;)

I like the one-on-one drill with Mutombo. Deke is a fantastic teammate. :)

    Nice one pruyen.

I agree with vcchlw on the one-on-one drill with Deke. Good way of preparing Yao mentally before the start of the game.

About the T-Mac one... I wonder whether it has become a ritual for them already :D Shades of a certain Broken Mountain are coming before my eyes for this one :D

Yao also organizes the layup line. Say it is the middle of warm-ups and everyone is doing their own thing ... He'll get two balls and will stand ahead of the goal with them and everyone stops what they are doing and gets in their places. He kind of sets the tone per se ... keeps everyone on track. He didn't do this under JVG.

It's also a warm-up habit for Yao to jog down the sideline a couple of times and do lateral drills.

I have to say the one-on-one with Deke is hilarious and is also something that was not done under JVG. Deke can shoot! Deke once blocked Yao and even though the matchup is only for fun, it didn't stop Deke from wagging his finger to the crowd. He takes that finger wagging seriously. :D

Man, I'll sure miss Uncle Mutumbo when he leaves next year. Who'll teach the youngsters about the NBA? Who'll guard Yao in practice? Who'll be our biggest cheerleader on the bench? Who'll come in and get 2 blocks in 2 minutes against Eddy Curry?

2 whole minutes? I wonder if there's someone on our team who couldn't...

Don't forget the distinct possibility that Curry commits an offensive foul or throws the ball away before we get a chance to block it.

I love Dikembe, I will miss him if he ever isn't involved with the Rockets.

Last season Deke was on the bench and there was a lull in the game, the crowd was somewhat quiet. My firends and I were seated behind the basket on the Rockets bench side of the arena. So I had my eye on Dikembe and for whatever reason decided to shout his name as loud as I could, Deke looked up and made eye contact with me, I pumped my fist and Deke threw me a peace sign, man that was so freaking cool.

Anyone know if the Rockets will retire Deke's jersey?

That might be the reason why Tmac is a horrible jump shooter.

I'd be shocked if they did. I mean he came here at the end of his carrier and was basically a bench player.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to see Deke get his jersey hung up but I dont see it happiening... Not in Houston at least...

Deke and Yao play one on one and switch roles when one scores on another?

Haha. I guess Yao probably doesnt get to play offense much in that drill. No disrespect to Deke.

His jersey won't be retired in Houston. However, they do plan on building an oversized statue of his finger.
