you need to add ANYTHING creative for the less than 2 seconds a jump lasts...

cupcakes, stickers, capes, ladders, slingshots, whatever. the dunks are about entertainment now. we're over a "pure" dunk cuz that got old fast.

I think it was a bit farther away than he intended, but he meant to throw it through like that to show his 12 foot dunking range so it should count. I don't understand why we don't see that more often from the big jumpers -- it is a cool change of pace that doesn't involve props.

Front flip in mid-air dunk like the power dancers do, except without a trampoline.

A dunk is when a player put the ball through the hoop with nothing but a downward moment. Just drop the ball down the hoop. It's a dunk.

Why so much against props? Teammates throwing lobs or Spud Webb getting jumped over would count as props by my definition.

They add flair and creativity to the mundane jump off ground/do something with the body within 2 seconds before landing. There's just physical and gravitational limitations to the act of dunking, unless someone can come up with a 74 inch vertical.

They werent going to end the dunk contest because no one cared, its cuz the physical limits were reached where it became a repeat of the same stuff. There just wasnt much spins and contortions left to do that people didnt see already. New dunks without props is like asking the contestants to "be more athletic" next year. No one wants to wait on the rate of evolution to see a new dunk.

Or how about a layup contest? Or maybe replace the dunk contest with a game horseshoe.

I also thought this all-star was just all about props. It was the most creative contest, but the difficulty of the dunks were not that high.

-The cupcake dunk can be done by a player that can get their head at rim-level (approx. 10 players in NBA) and/or have strong lungs.
-The Superman dunk was pretty much the same as Jamario Moon's earlier dunk, except that Howard's wasn't really a dunk. He only got the 50 because of the costume.
-The McCants-on-ladder dunk and the Howard's dunk with the small hoop were both also pretty much the same thing, in that the ball was grabbed from 10 ft. before the dunk. But Green's version of it was much better, considering he did his between the legs.

However, Green's without-shoes dunk was pretty difficult. And I also liked Howard's double alley-oop off the backboard. Those dunks had skill involved.

I was loving all the props. Those pictures of Howard the day after showing him in that Superman suit, he really looked like Superman soaring through the air. I'd like to see Green or Howard reprise the cupcake dunk but instead of blowing out the candle, light the candle next year, that would be real hang time.

the cupcake dunk was new and a good way to start it off, stop hating - its crazy to put your mouth near the rim even though alot more atheltes can jump thru the roof now

the superman costume on DH was just dapper
he was meant to wear that to all his games

what i dont agree with is the judging panel they pick half the time... like this year the team made sense but their scoring was just illogical.

    the judging panel should be:
    MJ (style)
Spudd (to rate the mad hops)
Drexler (to see if they know how to glide)
    VC (to rate the thugness)

There are still dunks to be done. The dunk contest is most definitely back. It'll only be a matter of time before someone gets the beyond the free throw line dunk, pulls a 720 dunk, a 540 dunk, or even maybe double between the legs. I personally think the very best dunk of the night was the one where Dwight threw the ball up, slapped it off the backboard and caught it with the other hand to dunk it. That was amazing. Could also see a dunk where the whole arm goes through the hoop, not just up to the elbow.

Would also like to see this one done in the contest:

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XBj__b4XMjA&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XBj__b4XMjA&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Jason Richardon tried a 360 between the legs but he lobbed it first, unfortunately he missed it.

I would also like Kenny Smith to shut the **** up during the contests! Him calling out the dunks before the players attempt them does not make him cool. It makes him a douche. He does that almost every year. I remember he did that during the VC contest and ruined the between the legs bounce pass one.

Yeah, but the video I posted wasn't a 360 between the legs, it was a 360 under both legs.

    How about this one:

when flying in the air, one hand holds the bball, while the other hand holds a piece of Sushi and a small bowl of sauce. Dip the Sushi in the sauce, eat the Sushi, and then finish the dunk.

It shows how long you can stay in air, and how coordinated your body and hands.
