... why does everyone seem to think that Bonzi Wells will magically transform before our eyes just because the playoff season starts?

Saw this rumor on today's Austin American-Statesman. Don't know why they think it is as important and report it anyway.

snyder for gordon, possibly...bonzi for gordon no way....

bonzi isnt an amazing player but he is the only guy who really knows the system and has played very well coming off the bench the past month and a half. he rebounds very well and is a very smart passer. the guy is one of the few guys who makes good hard cuts and is a mismatch on the post for most any guard.
if bonzi's jumper was any better he would have been the perfect player off the bench for this team a whole lot better than gordon.

if they include their first round draft pick, unprotected for this year then i may reconsider otherwise..move along

what makes me doubt the validity of the article is the way in which smith talks about the rockets shopping wells.

"shopping wells", "putting feelers out", "testing the market", "placed on the block" would all make sense.

"would like to rid themselves of..." is not something i believe. maybe last year.

Giricek would be a good and cheaper alternative to Mike Miller....I remember he hit some tough shots against the Rox in last years playoff...if we play the Jazz this year, you know he will have a chip on his shoulder

Giricek was recently traded - can he even be traded again before the deadline? I know there's a waiting period. On top of that, you need someone else + Snyder to nab the guy. I did a quick run down of our roster, and sadly I couldn't find anyone else I'd want to trade for the 1-year rental. I was thinking Snyder + 2nd round pick for Gordan, but the salaries don't match up. Pass.

It has nothing to do with "magic". It has everything to do with history...

Wells' career playoff averages in ALL major categories ranks him no less than second when compared to Hayes, Head, Alston and Battier. His playoff career PPG is greater than Hayes, Alston and Head combined. His career playoff 13.2 PPG nearly exceeds the next 2 Rockets...Alston (5.8) and Battier (7.6) combined.

Put down the hater-ade. Wells knows when it's Money Time.

There is NO waiting period for a player traded alone with no other contracts as part of the deal on their side.

I don't think this is necessarily a fair assessment. Bonzi's playoff averages are boosted because he USED to be really good a long time ago and one great series against the Spurs. Bonzi's current season averages (9pt, 5 rbs) are well below his career averages so that should tell you his game has slipped a little. I would be shocked if he put up 13 ppg in the playoffs, but it sure would be nice.

So a "fair" assessment is to assume players play in the playoffs as they do in the regular season? Might want to compare 2007-08 vs the Jazz playoff series for Alston, Head and Battier.

Wells clearly is mentally one of the toughest Rockets. Playoffs are about mental toughness. I'd put my $ on him way before the rookies, Head, Alston and Giricek.

I don't think so Rasheed wallace got traded from blazers to hawks and he only played one game then within a couple of days he got traded to the pistons
