OK, this is probably stupid or is going to date me severely, but I grew up in the 70s and, as such, haven't really had the chance to watch a lot of new TV shows (hard to get away from TV Land and The Sleuth Channel). Anyway, sis sent me Season 1 of The Office, which I think is only about 6 episodes. I don't think I've laughed that hard in a looooong time, especially the Diversity episode. How are Seasons 2 and 3? Worth getting? Same type of off-the-wall humor? Just curious.
I originally didn't like the first season until episode 4. Rewatching it made me laugh a ton though, and watching Season 2-3 is a must. Half of season 4 I think is already out, but currently on break because of the strike. Definitely watch the 2nd season at least.
watch season 2... you'll be compelled to continue on to season 3, and then 4. as for me, i've been sucked in by arrested development, i'm currently in season 2. it has similar humor. i can't believe it went off the air.
You'll find a lot of Office fans on this board. I think it's pretty well accepted that season 2 far surpasses season 1, and was when the show really found it's footing. The ensemble is the best on tv right now, and IMO season 2 of the office was the best season for a comedy since seinfeld went off the air. Season 3 is very good IMO. Not quite matching the overall consistency of S2, but still having many high-lights, and a couple streaks of excellent episodes. The jury is still out on season 4, which has been hampered by the network's request to do a bunch of hour-long shows, and the strike which killed off a ton of momentum. But I personally love the show, and will not doubt that the writers and actors can turn it around and salvage the season.
Season 1 is an exact copy of the British version of the Office. The real comedy is seen in seasons 2 and 3.
Season 2 is the best series of comedy episodes that I have ever watched. Season 3 also comes very close. Seriously, once you watch the first episode of season 2, you'll be hooked, as I was.
season 2 is easily one of the greatest seasons of comedy ever. i don't think they'll ever top it, though 3 and what we saw of 4 is also good stuff.
i was a fan of the british version before the american one came on - basically season 1 is just redoing the original brit episodes. the show didnt take on a life of its own till season 2. i would recommend the brit version though - more awkwardness and uncomfortable moments.
you can watch the entire british version pretty quickly since its only about 12 episodes, then move on to the american series. there's no need to pick one over the other, really. season 3 and 4 started of the US started getting more emotional, for better or worse, and in that sense more closely mirrored the spirit of the british series.
BBC original rules, you just can't replicate what Gareth gave the series. Carrell does an awfully good job, and pretty much matches Ricky Gervais. "Jim" and "Pam" are garbage compared to Tim and Dawn. I am biased, of course. Evan
Thank you, all! I rented Season 2- my sides are in pain from laughing so much. Some of the humor works on 2 levels- there's an episode where the boss is talking about disabilities, and he puts two pictures of Tom Hanks from previous movies on the wall to illustrate his point. The hilarious thing about the 2nd picture is that, not only does the boss say that being gay is a disability, but he's got a picture of Tom Hanks from "Big" instead of "Philadelphia." I'll check out the British version, too. Thanks again.
If you are still referring to the "boss" as the boss, not Michael, then you are not a fan yet. Go back and watch some more episodes until you call everyone by their names. j/k
