Good news to rich dog owners I guess. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/16/world/asia/16briefs-dog.html?ref=asia South Korea: Give the Dog a Clone By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE Published: February 16, 2008 A Seoul-based company says it has received the world’s first commercial order to clone a pet dog, from a California woman who wants to recreate Booger, her dead pit bull terrier. The cloning will be conducted by stem cell scientists at Seoul National University, where the first cloned dog, an Afghan hound named Snuppy, was created in 2005, while the company, RNL Bio, looks after the business side. The company said in a statement that is was charging $150,000 to clone Booger, using some ear tissue that the owner had refrigerated. “It seems that she had a disability and her dog helped her cope with the problem, so she was eager to get a clone of Booger,” the company’s chief executive, Ra Jeong-chan, was quoted as telling The Korea Times. “There are many people who want to clone their pet dogs in Western countries, even at this high price.” He said he expected up to 500 orders within a few years, adding that then “the cost for cloning a dog may come down to less than $50,000.”
I'm on the next jet there. My poor dog Sophie helped me through -so- many tough situations. It's great to know that there are kind souls out there that will help us out in our times of need. Poor Sophie a few months before her untimely demise: Spoiler
jeremiah, that's an excellent choice. mine, howevaaah, is......... I'm sure it would cost more than 150,000.
on a serious note wouldnt that be reallllllllllllly weird to get a dog that you cared a lot about cloned. would freak me out i think.
Funny, I just watched the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie "The 6th Day" yesterday. Pet cloning (as well as humans) was pretty much the norm in that movie. Quite fascinating if it ever gets to that point. I love my dog like a child and not sure what I will do when her time comes.
If I had such a disposable income as that, I'd sure as hell clone my dogs. I love them too freaking much! I want them around forever and ever and ever amen!
You can clone the animal but you can't clone the soul. I wouldn't expect Booger to be the same Booger. In fact, it might be the evil Booger.
Booger is having a badass time in Dog Heaven right now, probably banging like 72 virgin poodles, and then all of the sudden the clouds fade away and he has to spend another 15 years with some weird lady that smells like cabbage.
