Feigan is wrong. Once GS wins the 3 team tiebreaker it then reverts to a 2 team scenario and Houston beats Denver. DD
When you(and not just you BB) keep harping things like still not in the play-offs it shows that you cant see past the standings. I would rather Rocekts play hard and be competitive and not make the postseason than be in the east where you can play crappy and still get in. Why worry about what everyone else is doing? If the Rockets win 48-50 games and MISS the postseason it will suck, but hey you can't control everyone else. They would have had a danged good year, considering all the issues that were there at the beginning of the season. Sure you will look for opportunities to improve, but who wouldn't? Can't do a whole lot better than 17-3 over your last 20. Why make such a fuss over being tied with 2 other teams for the 7th best record after being 15-17??
It wont matter in 2 weeks anyways. I will be very very surprised if all 3 teams are tied after the last day of the season.
Hey, get a load of my post last week in the thread titled "The Absurd NBA Play-off Structure" which talks about a privilege I wished a team whose record was at .500 or better, but ninth in own conference, and better than some playoff teams in the other conference would have. It sure would be good if such a system existed this season, especially if we see a team with 50 or more wins miss the playoffs, which I think is just as bad as an NFL team missing the playoffs with an 11-5 record. Well, here's the link: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=3439040&postcount=72
Everyone keeps listing the Rockets as the 9th seed but they're the 8th seed by virtue of their conference tiebreaker over Denver. So if the playoffs started today Golden State and Houston would be in (as 7th and 8th seeds respectively) and Denver would be out.
Your facts are wrong. Golden State has the tiebreaker over Houston and Denver because of the superior tiebreakers (head-to-head and conference records). That means Golden State is the 7th seed. So now it comes down to Houston and Denver forthe 8th seed, the Rockets conference record is 18-13 and Denver's is 17-14, thus the Rockets are the 8th seed and Denver is the 9th seed. Those are the facts.
Here is the actual tiebreaker, the one the NBA uses: Three-Team Tiebreaker 1. Best head-to-head winning percentage among all teams tied 2. Highest winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division) 3. Highest winning percentage in conference games 4. Highest winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference 5. Highest point differential between points scored and points allowed First tiebreaker: Houston is 2-3 vs Denver and Golden State Golden State is 3-2 vs Denver and Houston Denver is 2-2 vs Houston and Golden State Golden State wins that tiebreaker and gets the higher seed. The rules CLEARLY states the the 3 team tiebreaker is used to see who gets the HIGHER seed. Once that's determined then the 2 team tiebreaker is used. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/matchups In the event two or more teams are tied in the standings, a series of tiebreakers are applied to determine which team receives the higher seeding. The 3 team tiebreaker is used to see which of the 3 teams gets the higher seed it IS NOT used to see which two of the 3 teams gets the last two seeds. It's just used to eliminate one of the teams. Thus Golden State is the 7th seed, and the rest of the 3 team tiebreaker rule is eliminated and it becomes a two team tiebreaker. So Denver's .500 winning percentage and Houston's .400 winning percentage means nothing. Then you go on head-to-head. Denver finished tied in that area. Division, they play in different division. Conference tiebreaker? Houston 18-13, Denver is 17-14. Thus, Houston gets the 8th seed.
Doesn't matter. Nuggets must play Warriors and Rockets later. As long as Rockets beat Nuggets in the next meet, all others equal, we'll be ahead of the loser of Nuggets vs Warriors.
the nuggets beat themselves??? does that count as a win and a loss.... lol, sorry....didn't see anyone else pick that out. i know you meant the warriors.
