I was brushing my teeth before going to bed late last night and almost bit my tongue completely off when I heard a Sporting News Radio (610am) (I keep a small radio in the bathroom) host say some things that just pissed me off.

    Meet enemy #1 Bob Kemp.

I went to the http://www.sportingnewsradio.com web page to find out this morons name. There is also a link to his show archives. If you click on the show for 1/18/02 and go in about 22 minutes you can hear the comments for yourself. I used Real Player.

Here's what Kemp had to say:

Caller from Houston: "...anything besides a prayer that could out them (Rockets) out and what do you think of Rudy T.?"

Kemp: "I don't think it makes any difference who the coach is. They got players on that team that are uncoachable, mainly FRANCIS and MOBLEY, so I don't think it makes any difference who the coach is.

If there is a case to be made for Francis is that he ought to be a 2 guard and not a point guard. They'll never do anything until the get a real point guard and move him or get rid of him period."

Caller: "Do you think there is anybody who would take Kelvin Cato?"

Kemp: "No. He's the least of thier problems. He's the fall guy and the scapegoat because they were dumb enough to offer him that contract which is not his fault. You would have signed it, by the way.

But everybody in Houston seems to be in denial that their biggest problem is Stevie Franchise and everybody always blames Cato."

Ok, let me say that I think he has valid points about Cato. He signed a huge deal that was laid out in front of him. We all would have done the same. I think at best he is a servicable backup center given starter money.

I just think he is way off the mark on Francis. I've heard Kemp before and he doesn't like him. I remember a show where he was blasting Francis for his attitude. Most of it stems from his refuseal to play for the Grizzlies. I don't think Kemp has liked him since. It just pisses me off that a moron can get on a national radio show and make up stuff he has no clue about. I wonder how many games that loser has actually watched.

Granted, many of the radio hosts say things just to piss people like me off just to get a reaction. Here's Kemp's email address if you want to get in touch with him: bkemp@sportingnews.com

    Any thoughts?

    It's not worth it :)

For whatever reason, Kemp hates Houston sports. Any Rockets call, any Astros call, he will go into his shtick. Fortunately he is only on 1-4 AM, so most of us can safely ignore him...

I'd say he's wrong about Steve. Steve's young and you can't blame this franchise's woes on him at this point. We'll see in a few years if Bob is right.

He's 100% right about Cato. Anyone would've signed that deal. It was a stupid move by the Rocks and they know it. However, they did it again signing Mo Taylor to an outrageous deal.

    edc,
I agree...I just had to get that off of my chest. I feel so much better now. I guess he's on the 1-4am shift for a reason: HE SUCKS! If he had a clue he'd be on at a time when people could actually hear him. He's the Kelvin Cato of radio talk show hosts.

    Thanks...I needed that.

Aren't 'idiot' and 'radio host' redundant?

Old School - I have called Bob Kemp some very bad things in about 5 other posts in this forum . Let me tell you something he said the other night that really pissed me off .

Kemp - "Steve Francis did not play tonight because of a head ache , This is ironic because Francis normally is the head ache."

I mean this guy has no freaking clue, He probably watched the draft when Francis whined like a baby and hasnt seen him play since, He rips Astro Fans everyday from April to September. I think He has somethign seriously against Houston. If his info wasnt so good I would never listen to an arrogant ass like him.

I agree about the Houston hate this guy dishes out. I've posted about this prick before too. A friend of mine recently started listening to 610 am and already he agrees with me about this IGNORANT idiot. The only Houstonian he seems to like is Bagwell, but as my buddy pointed out that's probably because Jeff is from his hometown (Boston.)

It sucks for me because I'm usually up that late and I like to listen to 610. He's not that bad sometimes, but then he goes off on some topics and he's usually way off the mark when ranting especially about Steve. Cuttino doesn't give us much to defend him with, but he seems to really hate anything dealing with Houston.

But everybody already knew he was a good player. Nothing he does on the court can change what people think of his character (positively). It was a bad thing he did on draft night, why should anyone forget it because he puts up good stats now? Aside from putting up good numbers, what has Francis done to make people forget about the incident (not that there's anything he can do)? He was second in the league in techs last year, and was arrested for DUI this year. Basically you've got 1)whined like a baby on draft night 2) put up great numbers 3) one of the leaders in technical fouls 4) arrested for DUI. Considering everyone already knew he was a heckuva player, who outside of Houston would think that was a favorable record so far?

I like Bob Kemp, isn't he just saying that our biggest problem is we can't control our guards, and that Francis is really a SG?

I think a lot of respected posters on this board have said similar things...

    "Cat's out of control."

    "Steve's not a point guard."

And Cato does take a lot of crap from people because the Rockets organization was dumb enough to offer him a contract expecting him to turn into a star.

He's definitely wrong on issues involving Eddie though, and he is too hard on Steve at times.

Our local radio hosts are almost as bad as him at not knowing the facts about Houston Sports, and they have NO excuse since their job is Houston Sports, Bob Kemp is a national guy and knows a lot about a lot of teams in a lot of sports, of course he could be clueless on some issues, can't expect him to sit down and watch a bad Rockets team when there are other "more talked about" sporting events in the country to watch.

I will say I used to hate this guy for a while too, but he's grown on me, and I enjoy his show, he also provides a lot of good inside info...

Most of the techs he recieved last year were undeserved it wasn't like he was acting like Rasheed. He was just enjoying the game. The same thing that Garnett, The Kings and others do in a more flamboyant fashion every night.

Also he has shown much maturity especially the other night in utah when a crime was committed against him.

As for the DUI. No one here (I don't think) knows the whole story, so really I wouldn't cast the first stone. He's not the first or the last to make a mistake.

People like bob kemp can say what they want, but if they really took the time to monitor him they would come to find that he seems like a good person and, IMO, good for the NBA.

I think it's pretty stupid for someone to base their opinion of someone else on a past mistake and even then when the person doesn't know all the facts. It's the same thing with Eddie. He has a reputation as a troublemaker when he has yet to mess up in any minor way in the present time (EVEN AGAINST THE JAZZ!!!)

I have no problem with Kemp suggesting Francis become a shooting guard. That is certainly up for fair debate. It's when he attacks Francis about his bad attitude and that he we should get rid of him. How does this guy know what Francis' attitude is? I doubt that they have ever met. People I know who have met him say he is a great guy. Rudy loves him and that's enough for me.

Actually, if you really want to handle it, don't b**** to Kemp. He won't change. Just complain to 610 and have him taken out of their rotation at night. If he is vehemently anti-Houston (by the way, he is), then they shouldn't be running him anyway. He's just filler. Let 'em re-run Rome or something.

Last year Steve was 2nd in the league in techs and yet he never once during the season received two techs in a row , His only ejection was the BS Kings Game last year .

I know that Francis isn't a punk like what Kemp says he is, but can you really blame Kemp for drawing his conclusion on Francis?

Steve said he was going to stay at Maryland, only to change his mind late.

Refused to play for the Grizz.

Outside of Rasheed Wallace, was probably called for techs the most.

Got into a confrontation with well-respected Larry Brown at the end of a game.

    DWI

He's a national guy, you can't expect him to keep track on the Steve Francis news, and we all know that the bad news is what makes the front page, while the good news is always hidden in the backpages.

I'd complain about Rich and Charlie, the local guys who constantly bash the Rockets, before I'd complain about Bob Kemp.

Hell even last night, Matt Jackson said that Cuttino Mobley is nothing more than a 6th man in the league, and that he should be benched.

I just think the anti-radio host campaign should be more focused on the local guys instead of Kemp because I like Kemp, and don't want to see him replaced with that brown nosing Jim Rome...

They'd rather talk about Astros off season news. Most of the radio guys are baseball homers.

That's your first mistake: listening to Matt Jackson. Turn your dial to 950am from 6-9 and listen to Phil Hendrie. Jackson is still wearing diapers and is too wet behind the ears. I like his enthusiasm but he tries to hard to be funny (which he aint) and knowledgeable (which takes time and experience).

They won't replace Kemp. He's just late night filler. I've only caught his tired act a few times.

    Yeah, that sucks too.

I actually enjoy his humor, but honestly I hardly ever listen to the radio during that timeslot, I just happened to catch Jackson last night. I've also tried listening to Hendrie, and I just don't find his stuff funny.

My replace comment was directed towards Mr. Saveourradio.com ;) who suggested talking to 610 about replacing Kemp with Rome.

    .........

I guess this is just a matter of different strokes for different folks...

Bob Kemp is an arrogant little (or fat) punk that thinks he is better, and more knowledgeable about sports then the callers. He treats them like crap, and his sound bytes suck. Sporting News radio is great, but what the hell were they doing sticking his ass on my airwaves? I'm always up at night, and it's either listening to tunes on the FM or talk on the AM. This is why they put his punk ass on at 1-4 am. I think it's best to replay Rome, or let me have my own show between 1-4 am.
I could do a hell alot better Job than Russ Small. Russ Small is a joke, he's nothing but filler time. He talks about the most stupidest mundane things, and gets repetitive.
    Yeah, that's it.
