I've kind of noticed this too. Sounds like somebody needs to start doing the dot drill.

JVG is basically trying to make himself look good since he forced the trade for Battier.

I guess Rudy is special enough to remain in the league without defense. Assistant coach, not so much.

JVG took the Knicks to the finals. What have you done with your life? Being a dick on the internet doesn't count as an accomplishment.

I don't get where you guys are getting Rudy Gay is an atrocious defender. Most young players don't know how to play defense anyways. But Rudy Gay has tremendous potential as a man defender because of his length, quickness, and athleticism. He just needs to bulk up and gain some experience. In a few years he might develop into a very good defender.

But who cares? The Grizzlies are in a mess right now, and I don't think Kwame Brown is gonna make them any better than Pau Gasol did (they're worse)

The bad Memphis team is 7.7 points per 100 possession worse defensively when Gay is on the floor.

What quickness? Compared to NBA players at his position, his lateral quickness is atrocious.

Omg....some you guys need to pay attention, or atleast learn to look beyond the stats/ or you didn't watch a lot of college basketball. If you would ask any former players what they see in players like Rudy Gay, they would say he has POTENTIAL based on his quick feet and athleticism. Again, listen to what I'm saying: he has the TOOLS, but still lacks some strength and defensive awareness.
Here's a draft profile on Rudy Gay:
    Profile

Basically, it should be common knowledge raw tools does not always translate into the court/field. But I think, with the right coach (ironically, JVG) and dedication, he can be a Battier-type defender, or better.

I get your point, but personally I feel that the guy is making millions to play a game and should play it the right way (that goes for everyone, but especially someone who could be great)

But our scoring is down this year with the "new" offense

Is JVG being an a$$ to Rudy Gay? I mean, does he say anything as outright as a player suck on defense or offense regarding other players? Is it personal?

But our offense can beat the elite teams that owned JVG's offense in last year.

Against teams who were top 10 in point differential, last year's team won 44% of their games.

Guess the win % against these teams this season.

No facts. People hate them here. Biased opinions based on hating an ex-coach is the way to go.

And I am not starting a debate, just stating that we scored more points last year is all

That's not entirely my point. You can win by offense, or defense, or both.

How many points did we score against the elite teams and how many points did we score against the worse teams last year? I think it would be more telling of my point. I suspect that we padded our scoring average against the weaker teams' lesser defense. If you can dispel my suspicion, please go ahead.

And our offense sucked in the playoffs against a good team's defense IMO.

Draft reports needs to be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.

It's amazing how wrong they can be. Heck, just look at Reggie Bush's draft profile.
