    In other Cowboy news...
    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news/fanball/20020117/fanball-cowboyslittleknownqu.html

Chad Hutchinson was offered a seven-year deal that is said to include a $2 million signing bonus, according to the Dallas Morning News. Hutchinson spent last year pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals. The 6-4, 230-pounder reportedly would need at least two season to get his football legs under him

WTF are they thinking??? I thought Quincy was the man

Don't get the joke, if it was about air support (passing game) it might make sense and be funny, but the Cowboys run OK.

Who cares, it is not like Troy Aikman was Roger Staubach or anything. Troy was a product of the best OL in the modern ere and great playmakers around him.

Now if Emmitt, the soon to be ALL-TIME NFL rush king went to Washington, that would be hard to swallow.

Go Cowboys!! (there are going to be a heck of lot better than the Texans--though I'll rout for the Texans too)

Emmitt Smith is the most overrated football player ever.

Wow. Let me guess... You are a big Eddie George fan too.

Emmitt has had a mediocre line the last 6 years. The fact that he can still average 4 ypc during that span is proof that he does not rely on an awesome line.

Moreover, you probably don't remember all those times he juked LB's out of their shoes.

He prob is the slowest RB I've seen in a while. However, his vision and quickness are among the best of all-time.

If Aikman was protected by the best OL line in the modern era, wasn't Emmitt Smith running behind the same line?

"The most overrated football player EVER" dont go around getting 1000 yds for ELEVEN straight seasons! They also dont become the ALL TIME RUSHING LEADER!

You might not like the guy, he might not be the best running back of all time, but he is not "the most overrated" football player ever.

    exactly, It goes both ways.

here is a little quiz for you all. who has more seasons with a ypc average over 5?

    Barry Sanders or Emmitt smith.

An average back behind a good line can get 4 ypc but it takes a great back to get 5 behind and average line.

I dont want to here how emmit is a great back. . . he is a good one that had the benefit of running behind a great line.

IVFL, Barry Sander's status has nothing to do with how good Emmit Smith is. Sanders was the best ever. Emmit Smith was one of the top 5 backs of all-time. This over rated talk is complete, utter bullsh*t.

Earl Campbell, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, OJ Simpson, Eric Dickerson....There's 6 off the top of my head that are better than Smith. I don't know where you get Top 5 of all-time.

Smith isn't even the best running back in Cowboy history, much less top 5 all- time.

I won't deny Emmitt had some great offensive lines to play with.

I won't argue Emmitt is better than Barry Sanders. Personally, I think Emmitt was the better guy to get 1st downs for you, the better blocker, and the tougher inside runner, but there are clearly many things Barry can do Emmitt could not. I'll will tell you this however, IMO the Cowboys would not have won their 2nd ring switching Barry and Emmitt because Emmitt caried the Cowboys against terrific competition (loaded and tough Giants and 49er teams) while playing with a seperated shoulder. Barry will never be able to say that.

Without a doubt, Barry and Emmitt they are the best 2 running backs to play since the late 80s, even if Emmitt is 2nd best that hardly means he is "overated". Troy Aikman was never the 1st or 2nd best QB out there, Elway, Marino, Farve, Montana and Young in truth were better players than Troy in their peaks.

Also, yes Jim Brown was better, he is still the best hands down. Yes Earl Campbell was better, probably next to Brown the 2nd most dominant pure runner but he did fade far quicker than Emmitt. Yes OJ was the better runner and overall a fairly complete runner, but also didn't last as long as Emmitt. Payton was very similar to Emmitt in that both are not flyers but were great overall backs (running for tough yards, blocking, catching, wickedly mentally and physically tough), but Payton I agree is a notch greater.

So top 4, I have no problem Emmitt is a notch below them (so is Barry Sanders too). For the rest the case isn't so obvious:
ED, like BS, was better in some phases of running, but you would be hard pressed to convince that either were overall better backs to win football games with.

You could also throw in really bright but short stars like Sayers and Bo Jackson. They were fantastic players when they could play. But no one in their right mind would say they had greater careers than Emmitt Smith.

If Aikman had the best O-Line then why did he have 10 concussions?

10 plays out of how many snaps and how many years? Do the math.

Dude....I hate the cowboys, but there is NO WAY emmitt smith is overrated. If anything, he is one of the most consistent running backs ever. True, he is a shell of his former self now, but a lot of that has to do with an inexperienced line. (We all know that the OL truly defines most backs, with the exception of maybe barry sanders.)

Besides, most running backs have an NFL life of about 3 or 4 yrs tops. Emmitt has not only played, but thrived for over a century. IF that's overrated, WTF is underrated in your opinion? Do you have to put up 2K yards to be "good?" Come on, now....Thinking is not a crime....

See what I mean by "overrated"...

What about Faulk? You're telling me that Smith is "without a doubt" better than Faulk has been? Jerome Bettis?

I had forgotten about Gale Sayers. Go ahead and add Marcus Allen, Franco Harris and Tony Dorsett to that list as well. All better than Smith.

Btw...how can a Rocket fan also be a Cowgirl fan? That's not possible. There's got to be some bandwagon-hopping going on there somewhere.

Sorry Freak, but no way Franco Harris is anywhere near top ten. Talk about an average runner who had the benefit of a great team.

Marcus Allen although great for a 5 year stretch was just better than average outside of those 5 years.

    Second tier

    OJ Simpson
    Tony Dorsett
Earl Campbell (would of been one of the all time greatest if he lasted any more than he did)
    Emmitt Smith
    Marcus Allen
    John Riggins

    Then maybe Franco Harris

    1st tier is

    Jim Brown
    Walter Payton
    Eric Dickerson
Barry Sanders (Could you imagine where he'd be if he played in Dallas or any decent team)
    Gale Sayers
