Anyone remember ... what was it, a little less than 10 years ago? ... when Dream was having these "mystery" injuries. He called it anemia, but some fans and even the team owner all but called it BS. Some were demanding Dream be put on the trading block. Well now we have Franchise with these mystery "migraines," and no one says diddly-squat about it??? No one wants to demand a Francis trade? Is it because we learned a little something from the Olajuwon incidents? Is it because people have an easier time with migraines vs. anemia? Is it because no one's too concerned about this season? Or is it because people think we're pulling a San Antonio, tanking for next draft's Tim Duncan???
I think he really has migraines. He looks like he is playing through some serious pain sometimes. I had them so bad in college, once I pulled over on I-45 on the way back to Houston from SHSU and checked into a motel b/c I literally couldn't see straight. I didn't feel safe driving. Just being in a loud, bright arena is probably the wrost place I can think of for a migraine sufferer. Trying to play? Impossible! Opening up the tylenol 3 was more pysical activity than I can manage when I had them bad. That he is trying to play at all is a sign that Francis really wants to win. Luckily there's plenty of good drugs out there that work pretty well that don't have bad side effects. I'm sure the Rockets docs will find one. My doctor in Houston did for me and I haven't had a problem in 8 years. Of course, some people aren't so lucky. My mother gets them so bad sometimes, she gets nose bleeds and throws up (could be the "flu" Steve was sitting out with -- I hope not). From what my doctor told me (any doctors here, feel free to corrrect me) migraines are caused by deconstricting of the blood vessels in the brain, causing too much blood flow. Medications like ergotamine (miracle tablet the doc gave that I stuck under my tongue and goes to work instantly) constricts the blood flow enough to usually at least make it bearable. The only bad rap on the medication was that it was bad for people who were at risk for strokes. In any case...I don't think the migraines are a mystery illness at all. --Deji
Well there are a lot of reasons ,symptoms and treatments for migraines. ( I posted a long (probably quite boring) disertaion on it here http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?postid=344674#post344674 ) But the key to understanding how this effects the Rockets is that he may miss games if: 1. It is severe enough to him knock out of an upcoming game, or during a game. 2. The treatment required is so strong (via the narcotic effect or hypnotic effect of drugs needed) or symptomologically upsets him (nausea/fatique/vomiting) enough that he would be ineffective on the court. 3. The frequency or severity increases so much that they stick him in a reseasrch treatment center for a prolonged period or periods.
What's interesting about the migranes is that they kindof come out of nowhere, then you get them for a while, and then (for some people), you don't have them any more, for no apparent reason. I used to get them when I lived in Norway, but about 7th grade, I never got them any more . . . I don't get headaches hardly ever any more, but I used to get them all the time . . .
