Just because we're pointing out one of his few flaws as a basketball player doesn't mean we're dogging them. DH being a good kid doesn't exempt him from criticism, especially on a non-Magic board.
Not really. He got dogged plenty earlier in the season here by some YOFs who thought putting Howard down would make Yao look better. I expect Howard to do what SVG said and re-dedicate himself to doing what he does best: Rebound and block shots. The fact other teams finally adjusted to his somewhat improved offensive capability ensured his points per game would decline over the season. He has to get over that and take what defenses give him. Over the summer, it's on the Magic to get Howard a decent PG and then his scoring will go back up and stay up.
His problem is that his offensive game isnt very refined. Many on here earlier in the year proclaimed to be the next Shaq, but he is far from being anywhere close. From a casual fan's view, all the dunking sure made him look like the next reincarnation of Shaq, but the truth he isnt anywhere close to Shaq in terms of bulk. You can clearly see him get frustrated when he plays against guys his size.
Sure do. I used it as my example of how immature Dwight can be when he can't out muscle someone. That was a classless move by a person who we need to remember is still really just a kid. I think he has the drive and work ethic to become a great player with a great attitude but it is going to take some time. The first step is for him to stop believing his own hype and stay humble.
Why can't he focus on both offense and defense? Yao does....i don't see why Howard can't do it. Playing good defense will give you confident on offense which is what he's not doing right now.
He's still young. He will mature eventually. Didn't Shaq used to be that way back in his Orlando days?
I don't know about the attitude but Shaq's game on offense was light years ahead of Howard if you want to compare both when they came into the league. Howard still doesn't come close to Shaq in terms of footwork. Howard is there when it comes to rebounding and blocked shots but if he wants to carry that franchise he needs a lot of improvement on post moves, creating for his teammates and being the go to guy in clutch. Other than his dunks, his moves down there still look awkward.
even jvg wouldnt go public with the star player on his team. look at the way he always had excuses for tmac. never said a bad thing about him.
Different players respond differently to certain tactics. I think it would be fair to say that Tmac has kind of a fragile psyche. SVG would not call out Dwight unless he was sure that it would fire him up, and it probably will.
