Why are the lower bowl crowds so bad? I will tell you.

The treat the Toyota Center likes it's a golf game. Plus the entertainment is wack. We cannot match Dallas or San Antonio's energy. The announcer needs to let people know that this is a basketball game and not a mortuary.

Get up on your feet until the Rockets score the 1st bucket and then cheer your hearts out until we win.

Definetely plays a big part in it, but if you take away the 44 million in gate reciepts from the organization (per Forbes 07) I would think Les might be a little more hesitant to just dish out those big figures.

To the guy who says the corporate people should donate their seats to different fans....does that apply to Les as well? He sits comatose all game at center court, hardly ever uncrossing his legs let alone standing up and cheering!

It's entertainment guys...if you bought a $100 ticket to a concert do you think you should donate your ticket to some kid who's world revolves around that band simply because they would enjoy it more?

    I have a great idea...
    CONSTANT FREE T-SHIRTS!!!

That's the only thing that seems to get everybody off their feet.

As a lower bowl season ticket holder, I concur. Not that there aren't plenty of bad lower bowl season ticket holders.

BUT...getting on those people for being bad fans is venting your anger in the wrong place.

Personally, I'm not typically a loud, crazy, boisterous fellow. I get up and cheer when appropriate, but don't go crazy (especially not after free crap...and it is crap). But our seats are always in use. If I'm not going someone is. Though sometimes when I go, I don't get there early - I have a job....those tickets are expensive...it happens. And sometimes when I go, I leave early. It's my 15th game this season, I don't HAVE to stay to the very end for every game.

The crowd last night was actually pretty decent. At the start of the game and right after halftime, it's always hit or miss, but for the most part, a good crowd. The rowdies were real energetic, etc.

I won't guarantee it, but its likely, if they keep winning, the crowd will get better, and in the playoffs the atmosphere will be great, especially the deeper they go.

Houston has fair weather fans....but who doesn't, and which fans aren't?

So, do you lead by example? ie. a season ticket holder and scream your lungs off like what you wish other rocket fans in TC to do? Otherwise, your expressed frustration/request is a bit hollow.

In order to talk the talk, you got to walk the walk.

Well in a rock concert depending on the band, you're gonna feel out of place if you don't sing along to the songs or dance to the song like the rest of the die hards.

You can equate that in NBA arenas also, if you're in the lower bowl of Oracle Arena or the Palace and not be loud and boisterous or take a cheap shot to Artest while holding him back, you're gonna feel sorta out of place. In the TC however, alot of the lower bowl don't care, the ones that do care are either not enough or get real self-conscious from the mundaneness of the other apathetic fans.

My suggestion is for all the clutchfans who are lower bowl season ticket holders to try to get seats next year close to other clutchfans. Pick a section row and seat, and see if other clutchfans are willing to buy seats in that vicinity if that is in their price range.

nope--never wondered.. since my company uses them to give to customers/vendors and employees all the time.. Some people are hardcore fans, some aren't. Who cares? The tickets are paid for-- not like any one of "us" were going to buy them since we waited till the last minute to look into the CLEVELAND CAVS game....(**HINT*HINT**LBJ!)

What might be said is that Houston has plenty of business that attracts indivduals from other cities (people moving into the city to pursue the energy industry). Unfortunately, in the last 14 or so years, there hasn't been a whole lot to be cheerful about, so it takes time to build brand recognition. Maybe when individuals start spending their paychecks to buy season tickets before they're sold to companies-- we may have a more rabid crowd.

But don't start griping when you didn't buy the lower-bowl ticket to begin with. Speak up w/ your wallet.

Not that I don't get your point - collective excitement is much better than individual excitement... but it's totally a necessary evil.

the aggregate money spent by those lame lower level fans who use their (most expensive in the arena) tickets for business reasons don't even pay for the aggregate of the players salarys. So the players can't use stadium energy as an excuse. Ticket holders already do enough for them.

If i was the type of person who made those type of decisions for my company and a Rockets tix rep convinced me to drop 50K on season tickets, you bet im justifying it by inviting clients who probably don't really care.

It's capitalism get use to it. If you want to fix the problem pony up the $165-$200 per ticket every game.

It's simple- our soulless yuppie bastards are more boring and lifeless than the same class in other cities.

The Compaq Center was louder and people did not sit in their seats, because they were all standing!

While winning can get more noises from the crowd, more noises can help winning to some extent as well. I can only hope the good cycle will start somewhere and roll on. Just look at the home-visitor split of Utah. If Rox fans are more vocal, at a minimum the refs will give the Rox players a bit more favor.

I am a college student. Tickets for the nicer seats are a little hard to come by for me and my friends.I feel everybody's pain and I wish I could do something more to help TC get better and louder w/ out literally going into debt.

I am not sure the best possible answer to fix this problem. My age group is the ones we want in there becuase we will be crazier and yell more and louder, yet we are the ones that cannot afford getting the good seats.

My best suggestion would be to stop throwing the free t-shirts and bangers and whatever else, and start throwing 6-packs.They could lower the price of alcohal, offer it to minors, and get rid of the 4th quarter rule..
That will get the place rockin.

(I kid,I kid.I do not promote the sale of alcohal to minors-just to clarify things)

Old news nothing surprising about this because in the lower bowl it is usually the high class people who have money to waste and bring their business partners to the game and discuss money..waste of seats

In 1993 I sat midcourt on the floor, in the third row. The ticket was $85. That ticket would be many of hundreds now. The semi well off folks that want good seats and are fans now sit in the corners and endzones of the lower bowl, whereas they used to be able to sit along the side of the court in the stands.

Also, in the Summit/Compaq Center, the good seats were NOT barred off. You could easily move to the good seats in the second quarter of halftime, so they filled up even when the ticket holder did not show up. Now, those sections are barred off. Restricted club. You have to jump a gate or sneak into the club to move into them. That keeps the empty seats empty. Not to mention the club section itself keeps people out of their seats.

    I dont get it though

I know the Toyota Center lower deck fans are pretty bad

But I mean do we just somehow have "worst" corporate fans than other cities?

So corporate fans in GS,Dallas .. or other cities are just more into the games than ours?

Dont corporate people seats in lower deck in all other stadiums too ... but for some reason ours are just dead.
