Like every freedom loving American, I have been downloading every song I can think of from the likes of Napster, Limewire, and AudioGalaxy. I seemed to have hit a brick wall and can't really think of any other music that I like...so I'm looking for some help and maybe to see what others remember from 'way back then'. I'm looking for old school rap music from the 80's and very early 90's. I've found quite a bit, but I'm sure that I missed a few great songs. Some examples that I've picked up are UTFO - Roxanne, Roxanne, The Fat Boys, and other breakdancing classics. What were some of your favorites???
This is my favorite subject. I was a hip-hop junkie back in the day. I can not believe some of the junk that is out now. I would go with some old school: EPMD, Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim N.W.A. and the first few Ice Cube Albums The First DJ Quik album is tight! Ice T and the rhyme sindicate Geto Boys, Scarface solo stuff, 2 Pac- Strictly for my *iggaz Sir-Mix-a-lot, My hooptie Special Ed - "Im the Magnificant" and "The Mission" Nice and Smooth Gangstarr- "Take it Personal"- that song was the sh*t. There are so damn many!
Schoolly D Steady B BDP Biz Markie Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock Eric B. & Rakim Just-Ice Mantronix Salt n' Peppa Leaders of the New School A Tribe Called Quest Black Sheep
Add BDP to JJs more political oriented (or at least politically flavored if you know what I mean) ones mentioned and you would have most of my favorites.
i was listening to tribe called quest yesterday on the way into work...classic...the best rap group ever, in my humble opinion. also listened to a little pete rock and c.l. smooth yesterday..."when they reminisce over you..."
What? No love for Kool Mo Dee? How Ya Like Me Now ?? Grand Master Flash and The Furious Five 3rd Base Dana Dane and don't forget the early L L Cool J. Damn, I forgot one of my all time favorites: Whodini!! Afrika Bambaataa (Soul Sonic Force) os
Yep, 3rd Bass was a good group... I can't believe I forgot about LL. He had some good stuff. I have thought of a few others... Jeru tha Damaja- he had a good album D-Nice Showbiz and AG MC Lyte A Tribe Called Quest and you can't hate on B.I.G.
Tribe Called Quest has already been mentioned... but I hated rap until I heard them. De la Soul's early stuff is also very good.
