what's up with the amy winehouse love fest? I'm a matchbox twenty fan so I know I don't have the best taste in music...but damn I just don't get this chick...
A guy I hired to work with me at an Ad Agency a few years ago is there tonight. He was nominated as a Producer for the Best Short Form music video. He lost to a Johnny Cash video. I texted him and asked if he was having fun and he replyed "***** Yeah!" He produced a really cool music video by Mute Math called Typical.
Amy Whinehouse had a great performance tonight. I hope she tours in North America, I'll be first in line to get my ticket. She made the album Christina aguilera only wished she could have made herself. I love Amy's sound.
I'll give it to the Grammy's. At least the vast majority of the show was music, not people talking. The Herbie Hancock/Llang Llang performance of Rhapsody in Blue was fantastic. Kanye's song about his mother was really moving. I thought Vince Gill, ironically, had the best acceptance speech of the night poking fun at Kanye (who laughed) and then saying, "Music is the ultimate democracy. Every note is equal." The Beyonce/Tina Turner performance was straight outta Branson. John Fogerty was pretty awful. Amy Winehouse looked like a coked out deer caught in the headlights when she won. Shout out to her abusive boyfriend who is in the slammer too. I was shocked Hancock won the Grammy, but it is an absolute travesty that only one other jazz album has taken the top prize in 50 years. That's a complete joke. His album is brilliant and it is absolutely loaded with a who's who of incredible musicians - nevermind the songs were Joni Mitchell. Frankly, I'm surprised Springsteen wasn't nominated for Album of the Year. Best Moment: Rhapsody in Blue with Kanye's tribute to his mom a close second. Worst Moment: Will.I.Am doing that bizarre rap medley towards the end of the show. What the hell was that? Most Tragic Moment: When Taylor Swift comes out right after Rhapsody in Blue and laments the fact that she didn't make it to the Grammy's before the age of 18. Sigh.
It was worth watching just for Rhapsody in Blue. Maybe the buzz machine is working on me, or maybe she really has something......but I might just buy Amy's CD. (yes....I still buy those).
I'll say this jeff, there were some serious albums in the Album of the Year category this year. That vince gill album is by all standards a masterwork, amy whinehouse, whatever you think of her, is unbelievable, Hebbie's album. All strong.
Yeah we worked together and are still friends. He works for a Production company in Nashville. His name is Brandon...actually listed on Grammy.com. Him and the director would have gotten their very own personal Grammy. Lucky SOB. Oh well, losing to the likes of Johnny Nash is kinda cool. Agree...great video with only ONE cut. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zNlZ4QFt7FU&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zNlZ4QFt7FU&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
I think the worst moment for me was when I was enjoying the hell out of Morris Day and the Time and I started wondering why the Grammys would have them on and I saw that big "R" behind them and suddenly Riana came out to sing that horrible Umbrella thing she calls a song.
One thing I've never understood...What is the difference between and "Album" and a "Record"? I like Foo Fighters and all, but there was better nominated for Rock Album. IMO, Wilco or Bruce Springsteen should have won. Sky Blue Sky is simply a great album.
Then what's the difference between "record" and "song"? There's a category for both of those as well.
word AXG. I just can't figure out the difference between best song and best record. I'm guessing one involves the production aspect perhaps. Grammys are the only award show I actually enjoy watching, all the performances are cool and it's a chance to see the best of all genres. Beatles rendition, kanye, foo, herb were all awesome. Winehouse was awesome to; she's psycho but she's a beast on stage, I like her style. I need to check out the herb album, never heard of it; I was hoping Kanye would win. I need to get me those shades and daft punk to follow me around everywhere.
