Not that these mean much but ... ESPN's Stein has us at #9 http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/powerranking ESPN's Hollinger has us at #11 http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/powerranking SI's Burns has us at #8 in the West http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/marty_burns/02/07/west.rankings/1.html
for me i dont care how the power rankings is going on. ticket to the playoffs means more than west top 8.
It's hard to argue that the Rockets should be ranked any higher than 8 or 9. As great as they've been playing, a 15-3 stretch still has them out of the playoffs if they started today.
I hope we stay out of the top 10. I doubt the players gain or lose confidence based on looking at these Power Rankings but I feel like this team does better flying under the radar or as the underdog.
I agree these don't mean much... but it still feels good to see the Rockets get some props and rise in the rankings after all this negative media attention. With that being said, this is also the type of team that lets down their guard with a comfortable lead... so let's hope this increase in rankings is not positively correlated with their intensity on the court.
I took a glance at some of these "expert" rankings. Then I saw Hollinger ranked Raptors as number 6 overall. All credibility lost.
example: see detroit pistons. Yeah youre right dave. The rocket's aren't idiots. Yao certaintly isn't. They check official rankings, so why not read the critics rankings too? Though these rankings don't mean much, I'm pretty sure the rockets focus and play better knowing people are doubting them. We're always the "dark horse favorites" yet haven't proven sht in the playoffs. Now we're trying to keep playoff hopes alive and we go 15-3. I like us being doubted.
Since when has tracy's knees become chronic problems? According to SI they are chronic like his back, which hasn't flared up at all this year. Aside from that I think all three were pretty fair
His rankings are based on a formula. Spend some time reading up on it before making these stupid statements.
No formula is perfect! Do you know about football BCS? Read up on it to understand more about ranking.
For some reason, Houston's sports teams have always seemed to suffer from the same problem: Inevitable failure whenever the players start believing their own press. Any time they start playing well, start to look like contenders, start to hear the praise, it always seems to spell doom. For that reason, they can keep all these rankings and throw them in a lake. Let them stay ranked lower than 10th all year, let all the doubt continue, let them continue to be written off. We know our team, and how good they can be.. just need the PLAYERS to not get cocky and complacent. That way lies success.
one of them has the Jazz as #2!!!!....i mean the jazz are good but I wouldn't put them at #2!!! I thikn they have the rockets about right but I think we will climb even more when we win our next 2 games
We are #4 on Burns' power rankings Burns Rankings HOUSTON ROCKETS: The NBA's other streaking team (along with the Jazz) had won 10 of 11 at week's end to join the crowd of playoff hopefuls. Even Bonzi Wells has been contributing, while Luis Scola has taken over as starting power forward.
Why? The Raptors have been playing very well lately. It's easy to forget about them because they're up there in Canada and never get any national media coverage, but there's a reason why Hollinger's numbers have them up there. They're a better team than you think. Much of it has to do with the very underrated play of Jose Calderon, who is now one of the NBA's elite point guards.
