I've been keeping my eye on this game for a while and now that it's finally out, I was wondering what people think about it. I'm on the borderline of whether or not I am going to pick it up. I know next years version will have online play, but it's not a huge deal for me. Then again I also have a lot less time lately, so I'm not sure if I could handle too many more sleepless nights playing video games. How does it compare to the Dreamcast version? Are all three of the Rockets rookies on the team? Is Eddie Griffin a blocking monster, or did they make him out to just be average? I'm probably going to rent it this weekend to answer most of my questions, but I'm sure a good number of other people on the BBS will be interested in getting more info about this supposedly excellent basketball game.

Thanks for any info you can pass on!

im not sure if its as good or not, but i gotta say that Griffin is pretty good on the 2k2 for Dreamcast. I usually play the All-Star competition level in the streetball and Griffin is a lot better than the 78 rating that he received.

I bought it today, but I'm not going to open it until I get a little more info on it. Does anyone know if the franchise mode is any good? I want to be able to draft rookies each season, sign free agents, have players retire. Are there season ending or career ending injuries?

I have the Dreamcast version, and you can draft rookies (you can even trade draft picks), and sign FA's.

The salary cap in that game is a hard cap, so it is not like the current structure, but rather more similar to the NFL's cap.

As for injuries, you can turn it on, but it doesn't happen often.

    Players do retire.

What I find is that there are way too many highly rated players 3-4 years into the Dynasty as compared to when you start at the 2001-2002 season.

xbox will be releasing an NBA game on the 29th. Inside NBA 2002 or something like that. It is supposed to take full advantage of the x-box power. The camera angles look good for the game play too. I'm crossing my fingers this one is good.

If the game play is the same as on Dreamcast, then you might be challenged to three weeks to a month, at best. It will wear out quickly after you start beating teams regularly by fourty point margins.

    B,

Why not swing by Blockbuster or Hastings or whatever your local video/dvd store is and see if there's a copy for rent? Better to risk $5 on a rental than $50 for the game.

dude open the game, you won't regret it at all, it would be an absolute disgrace to even compare it to live, which i've only held on to cause franchise is on the cover. i've kept my dreamcast plugged in along with ps2 so i can still play basketball and my 1001 nes roms disk. i doubt iif i'll get the ps2 version but apparently it's a bit better in the graphics, and a few other fixes. even a straight port would be great for non sega owners cause the game already looks awesome on dreamcsast. griffin, especially offensively, is a stud. there's also actual zone defenses and the computer will stop you from going to the basket all the time unlike live where nothing is even close to realistic. players aren't wearing ice skates either. i've loved the live series forever but it has slipped far behind now.

I was set on trading Live 2002 for NBA 2K2 but PSJ just reminded me of MS Inside Drive 2002.

    I wanna experience Xbox...hahaha

Okay, I've opened it up and I'm pretty happy so far. I wish Oscar Torres and Tierre were in the game, since the Rockets only have one shooting guard without them. Not being able to take a created player into franchise mode sucks cause I can't just make Tierre or Torres. The gameplay is fantastic so far. I just won my first game on pro level 66-65 against the Hawks (using the Rockets). I lost the first 5 games on pro level, which after never losing a game to the CPU on Live, I was actually quite happy. There are definately some flaws in the game, but is by far the best basketball game out on the market that I have played.

Is that Griffin on the left? Looks like # 31.
