Love this trade. Now yao can match up with shaq and wont have a pest like marion hovering around to strip the ball. We match up better with phoenix now :D

With this trade, the Suns go from a team that likely won't win a title to a team that now could win a title, yet many say its a bad trade. I don't get it.

It all depends on Shaq's health. But he's motivated again. That's good for Phoenix.

The only good argument against the deal, is the lack of common sense by the league in Game 4 where they decided to suspend Stoudamire, and that could have cost the Suns a title. But that was last year. This year, if the Suns were to make the playoffs, they likely won't be lucky enough to play a team like Utah and then Cleveland in the later rounds, like the Spurs were last year.

Let's face it, last years Jazz were one of the worst western conference finalists ever and the Cavs were one of the worst nba finalists ever.

I love this trade for two reasons

    1. The Suns are a better matchup for the Rockets now, as Shaq doesn't pose nearly the mismatch on offense as Marion, and he can't stop Yao on defense these days.

    2. Hopefully, this will shut up those who keep saying that Yao's too slow and would be useless in faster paced offenses.

maybe phoenix felted threatened by the pau gasol trade to LA in which they now have two great big men starting and they felt they needed to add shaq to contend in the playoff now, since they'll prob get LA again early in the playoffs. Maybe amare/shaq is a better matchup than marion/amare vs gasol/bynum.

    I'd say that's a legit concern.

At the very least we know we weren't going to beat the Suns with Marion.

The Lakers are losing to the Hawks, if they lose tonight, we are only 4 games out from them.

    :D

You could say they didn't have Bynum, but if you let Horford get 20 rebounds and lose to the Hawks by 3. Your team has got bigger issues than one center.

the suns are idiots! worst trade in the past year. shaq is never healthy, and when he is he is obviously an aging, declining old man. this is good for the rockets though, b/c now the suns are going to have to slow down a bit when he's in the game.

Go Horford!!! Kobe's reaction to Vujacic's last second drive to the hoop (down 3) was hilarious.

Back to the topic, here is an unusual situation that has gotten even more unusual due to this trade:

Wow, this is actually a great trade for the suns. I know people are saying that Shaq is done but you have to look at it in a different way.
Even with Marion, gone Diaw can easily step into his position, Suns can still run and gun with an amare, diaw, hill, bell and nash line up, but now they have a half court offense/defensive set which will virtually make Amare unguardable when he is playing with Shaq on the from line.
People dont realize that there is sense of urgency for the suns. Nash's window is fast closing and it would be sad if a 3 time MVP was never able to make it to the NBA finals, let alone win a championship. Suns know the owe it to him and they realize that the next 2 years are very critical for this franchise's goals. Shaq is also down to 312lbs for 325lbs, and personally spoke to Nash that 'he would not let them down'. He seems to be really motivated and the suns really do not need him to rush back anytime soon. If he is close to being 100% come the play offs, he is still SHAQ, one of the top 5 Centers in this league. This gives them a great opportunity the have never has as a organization in a long time, and it would really be hard for the Dallas, Lakers or Spurs to cover amare and shaq on half court settings, I believe it would work and Phoenix can probably make it to the finals this year is shaq can be what Jabar was when the beat the celtics when he was winding down his career. Orberto, Bynum, or Diop cannot gaurd shaq one on one.

Lakers, Suns, and Utah have made their moves. Look out for Cuban to do something quick to keep them abreast of the western powers, probably the Kidd deal will happen soon.

My question is what are the Rockets doing. Right now if we draw any of these teams in the first round if we make the play offs, it will be another first round exit. I dont know what we can get for James and Francis, but we need to get a trade done to bolster our offense.

Morey, its time to get a deal done!!!!

I can see what the Suns are thinking. Shaq and Amare are much better finishers than Marion. Give Nash outside targets (Bell, Barbosa) and inside ones (Shaq, Amare). Marion is an oustanding all around player--but can be the offensive weak link--more of a medicore off the ball shooter nor the szie or quickness to finish like the other two. This shows up a lot more in the playoffs.

Also, now Shaq nand Amare both can also come from the weak sides to block shots. Overall I think they can be a much better half court team--and that is what the playoffs are about. They will miss Marion's individual defense, but Bell/Barbosa/Hill/Diaw just have to take up that part more.

Before I didn't think the Suns could win a title, this team I think can.

For Miami, they just need more. Shaq as a role player isn't enough help to Wade. Miami needed him to be a strong 2nd option and do a lot of things, where as Phx can have Shaq as the 3rd or 4th option a focus on a few things (finish, rebound, block). This gives Mia a chance to re-shape their whole team--they got all they could from Wade-Shaq and mediocre players.
