In this section because Rockets havetheir own, Texans/Rockets share one.

Please only vote if you know all the Houston teams well so we get a good idea of the pulse of the posters on this site.

Slow at work today so I started thinking about how all the Boston teams either have or will make runs at titles in the same 12 month period and I just was thinking that I would freak out if the Stros/Texans/Rockets were all near or at the top of their leagues at the same time.

So the question is, which of our pro teams will have the most success over the next decade on the field/court.

No disrespect to the Aeros or Dynamo but I will keep it Rockets-Texans-Astros

Rockets-case for they are the best team in the city right now, they have two great players in a players (star driven) league. They have a good cast around Yao and T-Mac right now and are primed for a few title runs

case against-The West is Stupid good, Yao and T-Mac have not gotten out of the first round/been injury prone

Texans-case for, the team not only on the rise in Houston but maybe the NFL, seem to have the right coach/gm/owner. Young studs everywhere

case against-Never had a winning season, AFC South is best division in the NFL, too many question marks Schaub/D-Robs injury/O-line/RB

Astros-case for, most recent playoff success unlike the other pro teams in the city they are in the weak division and weak conf/league

case against-weak farm system, currently worst of the three teams in the city and betting everything on current roster with little pitching

Well lets hope they are all good and we can have multiple titles (that's my dream) but reality is we will be lucky with 2 of the 3 being good at any one point and lets see what folks think.

Safe bet imo still the Rockets

If you belive in what the Texans are doing than maybe them

If you love the roster the Astros put together and think they can rebuild their system soon maybe them

Decade? That's impossible to tell. The Astros could lose 100 games next year, have a firesale and rebuild the farm, and win 6 titles from 2013 to 2018.

of course but it's a "gut" feeling kind of thing

we all know here how long things take to build Astros more than 10 years from 86-97 in playoffs

Rockets 10+ years since playoff series win

    Texans 6 years no playoffs

i wish i could say the rockets, but i feel after yao and tmac end their careers it will be ugly for the rockets for a while. however the young talent is encouraging.

    I hope its the rockets

but i chose the Texans on gut feeling.

Exactly. I have no idea. A decade ago, the Astros were the 1998 Astros losing to the Padres thanks to 3 starts by Kevin Brown; the Rockets were just really beginning on the magical Steve Francis era and I couldn't spell Yao Ming; and the Texans hadn't taken the field...David Carr still had short hair.

So my answer is: I don't know.

    Houston Dynamo...2 time defending champion.

As far as the poll goes, I'm going to vote for the Texans. There's a lot that has to change with the Rockets before I'll believe in them as a contender. The Astros may be better in 2008 than they were in 1007, but with the current state of the minor league system, it's hard to project long term success. The Texans seem to be the one of the 3 that are on the way up. Possible playoffs next season (depending on if they continue to make the right moves this offseason) and things can only improve from there.

    huh??

it's not remotely the same. the team from 86-97 was in receivership at one point. it was extremely unhealthy. they were playing in a mostly empty ballpark that no one cared to go to. that's wildly different from where that franchise is today...and baseball's revenues are out the roof.

looking at the houston astros and saying it takes 10 years to rebuild because it did from 86-97 is nonsensical.

I can't belive early on so few are picking the Rockets (that sounds like many here don't belive in the Yao/T-Mac duo) and yes to agree with some the Texans look to be taking off and lets hope the Astros hit a homerun this offseason

im just skeptical to how long the duo can last. one guy with a bad back and has already talked about retirement...the other a 7'6 guy, which doesnt exaclty bode well for longevity at a high level

don't take like that, from 97-06 the Stros won many more games than they lost but the decade before (no matter what the circumstances were they lost many more than they won)

folks in Houston thought Steve/Cat/Cato/Griffen/Mo Taylor were the makings of a "great" team and that was 100% wrong my point is you never know

My "gut feeling" says it's the Texans. The Colts will inevitably have to re-tool what they have around Peyton. The Titans are an anomaly at this point. I see the AFC South flipped upside-down over the next decade.

The Astros could have a pretty horrible series of years followed by one or two good ones. That wouldn't translate into a "decade of success" in my opinion. Plus, baseball sucks anyway...

The Rockets seem to be pretty screwed. The West is just too difficult and they seem destined to be the third best team in their own state. Surely the Spurs will slow as Duncan ages, but who really knows. Their organization is great and seem to find good talent at every level. The Mavs...well, Dirk isn't going anywhere.
Yao appears to be at or near his peak while McGrady is clearly on the major decline. Too much money tied up in those two to ever really bring in a great (not good) supporting cast. It's too bad...

I don't how anyone could pick them

Rockets-if you belive they have what it takes now

Texans-if you think a little long term

Astros-kind of a mess right now, lets hope they catch lighting in a bottle a everything clicks this year and the division sucks or they have a firesale and pull a Marlins

So pissed we could not win in 05, I want atleast 1 in my lifetime

What happened to the DYNAMO?

If you say "well, they just won 2 championships", then the same could be said about the Rockets.

yao will hurt when he is no longer in his prime... so i think rockets will be mediocre for awhile. unless morey/adelman keep drafting good young talent.

astros are the easiest to rebuild and have shown consistent success over the last 10 years. if "success" to you is championships then i dont think the astros will ever win a ring with never rebuild mcclane.

texans... i hate football so i hope they stay bad.

i honestly don't see any of these teams winning it all in the next decade. dynamo sure.
houston needs a NHL team too.

I think the Texans will. They have a good leadership nucleus and seem to be building the team the right way.

The Rockets have a very small chance of having much success over the next decade. Thier two stars are getting old and making so much money that they can't afford to bring in young guys. They had a great draft and if they continue having success in the draft then maybe they can do something besides choke in the first round.

The Astros could be the team but this past two offseasons they have trades away so much young talent and thier farm system is a joke.

The Texans, on the other hand are on the way up. They have a young promosing defense, and the best receiver in the division. If they have a good offseason then they will be the team that is the most successful.

Actually, the Rockets' two stars are just entering their prime, they aren't "getting old" yet. I guess TMAC could possibly be "basketball" old since he started playing so young, but most NBA players enter their prime from 29-32 or so. Yao isn't even there yet and Tmac just turned 29 I think.

In my opinion, the Rockets have a good chance. One, they will always be competitive with Yao and Tmac AND could get better as young players mature and the possibility of one of these veteran aquisitions in the offseason actually paying off.

Also, if either Yao or Tmac retire, get traded, or whatever, that's a lot of salary off the books to help rebuild quickly. Also, if a trade were involved, I think you could bring in a lot of talent for both. So I think the Rockets have a lot to work with, by either sticking with the tandem OR using them to aquire talent.

The Astros MIGHT bang out a lot of runs in the next season or two to be competitive, but I think they'll have to rebuild for the long run in the year or two after that. They DO have some stars that could bring a lot of talent if they decided to rebuild, so it is possible for them to turn around quickly, however, I think this ownership likes to stick with their home grown guys and will probably not trade. I look for them to win between 80 and 90 games for the next few years and maybe or maybe not make the playoffs.

The Texans seem to have turned the corner. They have a lot of young talent. They also have talent at hard to fill spots on the defensive line. I think a good draft or two as well as some good free agents could make this team a playoff team quickly. In my opinion, they seem to be doing it right, so I think the potential is the highest of all three Houston teams right now for the next ten years.
