    Hello all,

Here's our latest Rockets column, in which I wonder whether the Rockets and their fans can draw hope from Sunday's shocking Super Bowl result:

    http://blogs.houstonpress.com/ballz/2008/02/standing_on_the_shoulders_of_g.php

You know the routine by now. Feel free to offer any thoughts, critiques or suggestions you may have; either here, or on our website. And as always, thank you so much for reading.

    cheers,

    JCF

Tough to navigate thru the West? I saw someone (player? coach? LAL or Nugs, perhaps?) this morning quoted as saying that on a given nite any of 10 teams was best in the West.

That said, I do believe this team needs an infusion or two. A tad more than a tweak. (I would even still consider blowing it up, meaning ahem ahem, if it were quality for quality and NOT a D-U-M...P!)

Agreed. I'm giving it five stars though because of the fact you always post your stuff.

Very well written and inspiring too. Good job, Fritz.

That's kind of how I felt after the game. Never say never, especially if you're a true fan of your team.

Being a true fan is kind of like love. You gotta open yourself up to being hurt.

If the Giants can do it...

Guess who else is using that line. And it's not even an underdog. Pretty soon we'll have Yankees fans saying it. And Pats fans, and Lakers fans, and Celtics fans, and Cowboys fans.

I do agree that the Rockets are still missing a piece of the championship puzzle. Having said that, I think that piece can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Sure, an upgrade at PG would be nice, but I don't subscribe to the theory that Rafer is the one guy holding them back.

The West is a meat grinder, no doubt. The depth of the conference is mind-boggling; you'd think at some point the East would catch up, but instead the gap only seems to be widening. I've said it before and I'll say it again: In my opinion, the most important factor (besides health, of course) in advancing will be each team's ability (read: luck) to avoid its kryptonite (Phoenix avoiding SA, SA avoiding Dallas, etc.). From the first round to the Finals, the Western Conference playoffs are shaping up to me must-see TV.

    Your points are well taken.

As to Rafer, he seems a different player withOUT McGrady than with TMac. Something in the court dynamic which begs for a better fit at the 1 with our great, talented 2/3.

I keep thinking I'm hearing ringless stars opting to go East and become Celtic-like. But I am just not seeing much of it. Even Gasol stays in the West. (TMac to the right LEastern Conference squad [Bulls?] might get him into the 2nd round. Finally.) To make the playoffs in the W is an accomplishment; in the E in can be an embarassment - probably three sub-500 teams playing post season ball.

A thread I have thought of starting is concerning how well the Rockets have been able to play on the road compared with how they've played at home. But since this thread has been started, then I don't see any need to start any such thread at all at this time.

The New York Giants first made the playoffs and then won the Super Bowl mainly by winning on the road, which is the hard way. Their regular season record of 10-6 consisted of records such as being 3-5 at home, but 7-1 on the road, and since they were in the playoffs as a wild card team, they had to play every one of their playoff games on the road.

The Rockets have compiled their 28-20 record the hard way, which is by winning more on the road than at home. So far, their road record is better than their home record, and are riding on a winning streak (currently eight games) on the road, which I think will get snapped either in Cleveland on the 19th, New Orleans on the 22nd, or in Dallas on the 6th of March.

Since the Rockets seem to thrive more on the road than at home, the question the thread would have had is "Do you think you could call the Rockets the New York Giants of the NBA?"

I think the playoff structure in the NBA is going to work against any Rockets/Giants analogies. It doesn't come down to one lucky game in the NBA. You've got to win a series where by definition the better team is supposed to be able to disregard the odd loss and come out on top.

    hey man

I really want to ask you. Is there anyway you can do an interview or something to shut the Yofs and Tofs once and for all? Like some kinda heart to heart with T-mac and Yao to say they love each other and love playing with each other

Im really ripping my hair out today over their incessant arguing
