with all the griffen talk about what position he should play, the 3, the 4, the 5??? got me thinking. which player in the nba today if cloned and made a team out of could compete against a regular lineup? im thinking 5 garnetts could get the job done against other nba teams...except fot the last 5 min when he would want to pass to everyone but himself? 5 t-macs might work? it has to be a tall enough player to guard against shaq but be fast enough to contain francis. who else is out there?
If I clone Jordan, is it this year's version or Jordan 10 years ago? Height is less of a factor with a zone defense....
There are a bunch of old school player's that could work. I certainly wouldnt mind cloning 5 Wilt Chamberlain's. I'd put that team up against 5 of anyone else and it would probably win. Then there's Magic and Bird. Dominique would make a good team...at least a very entertaining one. Barkley's team would have some problems but I'd love to hear the post game quotes Players in today's game who I think would be good are Antoine Walker and/or Paul Pierce, although they would get taken down by a team of Garnett's most of the time. What about Shareef Abdur Rahim or even Kobe or Vince, or a Dirk Nowitzki type? Anyway, based of this year and only current players, you'd have to take your chances with Garnett, but all time Chamberlain would do it for me.
im not talking about five of one player vs five of another... i mean who would be good vs another team... could 5 jordans in his prime take on the lakers? thats why i dont see wilt as having a good chance...how is he going to bring the ball up the court...i guess he could just keep handing it o himelf over and over again but how is he going to guard a point guard on the perimeter? we should also throw out zone defenses for sake of argue... who wins with 5 olajuwons in his prime vs the 93-94 rockets?
Magic Johnson is a good choice. He played Center and won a championship. He played point and won a championship. I have no doubt he could play the other three positions. He's probably the best selection out of anyone.
With this question, I'm not sure how you could compare an older player with today's game. I don't think Dr. J would play as great today due to the extreme physical nature of today's game. I think players like Vince Carter and Kobe would average about 70 points a game in the 1960's and 70's. There would have been no stopping them. I suppose I would have to take Kobe in any time period. I really like his all-around game and would love to see him in Rockets gear one day (yeah right...dream on!).
ok...so lets restrict it to todays players...could 5 kobes take on his own team with one of himselves on it? could kobe guard shaq? im thinking only athletic dribbling pf could have a chance...rasheed, KG, webber, SAR maybe? who else
I really dont see this as a problem. I know he wasnt a great dribbler, but how hard would it be for him to just continually post-up all the way down the court. In essence, I think Wilt would be able to score on at least 70% of the plays - he was just that dominating a player (he averaged over 50 points a game for an enitre season and most who played with him think he would have don even better in today's NBA...I dont know about that, but he would still dominate if young and healthy like no other, he was just that good). Especially in a best-of series, I still think 5 Wilt's would win every time. Limiting to today's players though, I still go with KG. He is presently the perfect defensive specimen. His offensive game is fluid, smooth, and efficient.
Well, in order to answer this question, you'd have to first figure out who is the best one-on-one player in the NBA...Obviously, the best one-on-one player isn't the best player in a team setting, but if you're talking about cloning someone, I'd take 5 of the guy who can beat everyone else, 1 on 1...At the most recent Olympics, Rudy staged a (quite serious) 1-0n-1 tournament amongst all the players, in part to see who would be the focus of the team...Vince Carter won going away (beat Garnett in the finals, I think)..SHort of any other criteria, I'd take 5 Carters... Without this criteria as a standard, if I were just going on my gut, in terms of what seems like the answer, I'd take..( not including Carter) 1) Garnett 2) McGrady 3) Odom 4) Webber All time, I'd take Magic, I think, fairly easily...
Jordan, McGrady, Garnett, Bryant, and Shane Battier are all guys who could do fairly well today. All time:Magic, Bird, Hakeem, Dr. J.
Dirk would hold down the 3, 4, and 5 spots better, but IMO, is not quite as good a dribbler as Battier.
Depends on how stern told the refs to call it..... I'm betting on 5 mikeys...cuz he never heard a call he didn't like.
