Well holy crap... anyone else have this game? I bought it the day it came out, was kinda annoyed at the layout for awhile... but now that I've warmed to it, it's like crack to me. This and SSX3 are pretty much my ideal racing games... first because they're both ludicrously fast, they're arcade-fun, and in the case of Burnout, the crashes are SPECTACULAR. I never thought an open-world setup would work for Burnout, but dang... if I'm not doing events, I'm having fun crashing my car or trying to "rule" whatever road I'm on. GT5-be-damned.
i'm not going to purchase this because there are other games that i want. i played the demo quite a bit and enjoyed it tremendously. my first burn out game so i wouldn't have any idea how it compares to the previous versions. i think the biggest knock on it is how the game is a open world ala need for speed series. i don't mind it...but some ppl do.
This is the first game I will be getting when I get a 360. Burnout is hands-down the best action racing franchise ever.
Oh, I absolutely love Mario Kart but consider it more of a 'battle' game. If I had to chose one game between the two franchises it would be MK, no contest, but I just don't think it's the same. If they gave you weapons in Burnout it would be different.
Got it the day it came out and I love it. I've played Most Wanted and loved the open environment so I thought bringing that concept to Burnout was a welcome change. The graphics are pretty stunning, only bested by the slow motion crashes. The racing I feel isn't quite as chaotic as Burnout Revenge, which is a good thing. I like the way they designed the time trials and online modes...you can just drive to end of the street, press up on the dpad and start racing and the clock will start ticking. The new stunt run mode is pretty cool and road rage is a stress reliever as usual. My only complaints are that there are no circuit races anymore; it's all point to point. I understand the open feel and the designers desire to make you find your own way. But I think the game would have been better had they included some circuits (like Most Wanted). And then they took away crash mode completely and replaced it with Showtime...essentially you can drive down any street and start a crash at any time. Might seem cool except you only get credit for damage done directly to other cars and only get to see the damage you do directly. So gone are the days where drive up to an intersection, fly off a ramp and slam into a bus that careens into oncoming traffic and causes explosions galore. That will be missed. Showtime is kind of fun though, but can get a little boring after awhile. Other than that the game pretty much rocks. As for Mario Kart...Super Mario Kart for the SNES was one of the best racers ever...but the Burnout franchise beats the Mario Kart franchise easily...cause there hasn't been as good of a Mario Kart game since the original.
Forgot about aftertouch...that's something I miss too. You start to wonder why when games are close to perfect, the designers decide to change things just for the sake of changing them.
Downloaded the demo and been playing online with a buddy that has the demo too...I cant put the controller down, its ridiculously addicting. Im going to pick up the full version soon.
I have to admit, there ARE things that annoy me about this game. The big one is the lack of aftertouch... I mean... why? What's the purpose of taking that out? There's no good reason. While the crashes are pretty, I used to be spending that time doing something constructive: trying to take someone with me. Now I just have to sit there waiting for it to end. Also, is there really no kind of indicator which tells you which events you've beaten on your current license? It gets kinda hard finding events you get credit for later on in the game. And yeah, I do wish they had some closed-circuit races as well, as well as a dedicated crash mode. But showtime is fun in its own right, and I love the rule the road feature. It's not perfect, but honestly, that shouldn't stop anyone who loves arcade racing from buying this game. Really. It's still great fun.
Have you ever played Stuntman Ignition? That is by far my favorite driving game ever...it really tugs at my OCD...
Really? Never did play that one. Looked too gimmicky for me. Is there even an option to do races? Cuz I dunno... seems like just doing stunts could get old after awhile. It's the part of Burnout I care about the least. I'm more concerned with racing FAST and taking out other cars.
I dunno...if you like explosions and all kinds of crazy **** happening, I'd definitely give it a try. It's worth a rental at least...plus the movie trailers are freaking hilarious!
