A theory that has developed over years cannot be debunked by an analysis of a single game. The idea of the analysis was to determine if tmac had a positive contribution in the rocket/pacer game (he did).
now your just seriously contradicting yourself. You said that you thought earlier in the season you felt he took alot of fadeaways. Now your saying a theory developed over years. Your demonstrating a clear bias that you think he takes a large number of low % shots. I did mention I think we need a larger sample size.
How am I contradicting myself? I said that over the years, Tmac has been accused of taking low % jump shots. And then I said that I felt he had been doing that earlier in the season. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive. I fail to see where I contradict myself and I fail to see where I show bias. What do you mean by sample size? Number of shots? Number of games? Please elaborate.
So only Yao and Tmac are capable of getting hockey assists. I didnt think it was possible, but the "hockey assist" stat just lost more credibility in my eyes.
bbjai, continuing this argument with wekko is not good for your mental or physical health. Please, just walk away.
where have you ever said his known OVER the years for taking low % jump shots? You said his known for taking low % jump shots. Its like saying that this is fact. He has a career 44% FG%. Im pretty sure that says that his shots in general are not low %. You are clearly demonstrating to me that you already think all his shots are low contested shots without any clear analysis on your part to back it up. In fact the first 6 games of this season he shot at a very high % despite them being contested or drives or whatever. Its just clear to me you don't like Mcgrady and his decision making in general. Like you said his known for shooting contested jumpers. Known is not fact. I would rather know why his consistency seems to drop when Yao is in the game, this is one glaring factor for me. What i mean is we need more games that analyse the game play by play to judge whether or not T-mac has a positive impact on games. Honestly contested large fadeaway shots are a minority of his shots. You are clearly biased in that you think its a major part of his game. And you've slowly bought this out in your argument
Im really bored at work im going at 5pm here in australia i will stop then Im just surprised someone bothered making him a member
no everyone is capable of having a hockey assist they need to draw the double team first. Ill gladly give it to them if they pass it out of a double team to generate a Hockey assist. A open shot happens either because of a defensive mistake or a double team. Simple. Hayes is perfectly capable of this if he gets the double team AND makes the pass.
Fact? I preface my arguments with "tmac has been accused" and "i felt". Neither implies fact. Wrong. All that tells you is that he makes 44% of his field goals. You cannot make any assumption as to the quality of the shots. Earlier in his career, he was perfectly capable of making those 18 foot fadeaways, and he did. But that doesnt make it a high % shot. How am I demonstrating that i think ALL his shots are low % shots? I think a dunk is pretty high %. A contested 18 ft fadeaway is different than a contested drive. You're right...its not fact. But theres a reason he is referred to as T-Jack. Define consistency... Thats funny. Especially since I have never said its a major part of his game. You sure do make a lot of assumptions. But there have been several close games this year that we lost due to tmac settling for long jumpers as opposed to driving to the hoop.
Since none of what you have mentioned has any statisical backing what so ever INCLUDING T-JACK. You have no right to mention it in the type of objective analysis. You've taken all of T-mac's so called known characteristics and applied them to the analysis of his each individual shot in the game. Blake has given a neutral rating for some of the shots u even mentioned. Its clear to me if you read between the lines on what you suggust and your other posts preceding this thread(and yes i remember your argument about his knee injury and the all star game) that you clearly hate T-mac. Im sure everyone on this board can tell you that you are clearly hinting that he shoots long jumpers, shoots contested jumpers, can't make them, does not make good decisions in general.
Blake provided a breakdown of 1 game. ONE GAME. It is not indicative of his entire houston career. As such, you cannot use Blake's statistical results of this one game to define his houston career. T-Jack is a nickname that is a testament to the shot selection he has been known to take at times. If his poor shot selection is pervasive enough to warrant a nickname, then I wouldnt be surprised if it were a common event. Keep in mind that if he makes a "T-Jack" shot, its still considered a good play. If you wanted to be truly objective about his shot selection, you would have to rate this as a bad shot. Yes, Blake did edit his original post to include neutral ratings as opposed to the "good" ratings they originally were. Probably so. And I'm inclined to believe that many of the posters on this board would agree that in general, he doesnt make good decisions with his shot selection. Let me ask you a question. How many close games do you think we've lost this year as a result of his late-game shot selection (settling for long jumpers)?
Please rate for me the importance of the following 3 things: 1. Made Basket 2. Assist 3. Hockey assist Please tell me which one you think is the most important, 2nd most important, and least important
Let me start at the beginning. I believe this is what Blake was trying to get across with his analysis(thanks Blake): Blake analyzed all of the offensive plays that T-Mac was involved in. If he didnt have a play run for him, or simply passed it around without penetrating or anything, nothing was recorded. When he did something, it was one of three outcomes: Good. Bad. Neutral. The rating was based partly on T-Mac's decision, and partly on the outcome. If he took an open shot that he is supposed to take in the offense(such as coming off a pick or catch n shoot when open) it's a good play. Thats what Adelman wanted when the play was run. If he MISSES the shot, his rating gets bumped down to neutral. At least that's what I see from the results of the analysis. If he drove to the basket and shot a layup/dunk shot, this is a good play. If he missed it, it gets bumped down to neutral. If he took a long contested jumper it is a bad play. Turnover is a bad play. The time where T-Mac was poked in the eye and no call was made as they took the ball away from him and raced up court he called neutral because the Ref SHOULD have blown the whistle. I have seen that happen ONE time where the foul was not called, and that was it.(and I have seen it called countless times) Penetrate and dish was also a good play. Thats what you want when he has the ball, to create something when the play breaks down. Attacking the basket. The only reason he mentioned the hockey assist is for illustration. Regardless if you want to give T-Mac an official stat, he made a GOOD play by drawing the double team and finding the open man. I mean, if he does the same thing and throws it away it will certainly count as a bad play, so why not count the play as good if the pass leads to points and neutral if the shot is missed?? I would certainly credit Yao with a good play if he makes the right read when he gets doubled and it leads to Battier nailing a 3 after a pass or two. I would also credit him with a bad play if he gets stripped or throws it to the defense. Its about T-Mac's decision making process. Saying he takes ill-advised 3's, long contested jumpers early in the shot clock, never penetrates, and doesn't move without the ball appear to me to be bad decisions. And the criticism of T-Mac is he makes bad decisions. Blake just showed that he makes much better decisions than he gets credit for, at least in the Indiana game. And one of the most often used praises for T-Mac by all national media(the ones who rag him about not making it past the first round) is that he is a good decision maker. Certainly JVG and Rick Adelman believe that. I think you are arguing semantics and trying to discredit T-Mac to match your own agenda. It's the decisions.
Title : head in ass Version :3.0 Abstract: a Poll on Yao's performance vs. win Contents: ridiculous items head in ass, v 3.0.
Sorry, post this in a wrong thread. Houston only need wins instead of any personal performance. Someone is in-born hater here, get them out.
I think his shot selection is way low on the list of why we lose close games. Let's conveniently forget the stupid turnovers, the poor defensive rotations, not even getting a good shot off b/c you are spend the whole shot clock trying to get it down low to Yao, etc. etc. I'm not saying T-Mac taking a typically lightly contested jumpshot is my ideal play, but it is definitely what many would consider the lesser of many evils when you take a true look at why this team fails down the stretch on many occasions. Fans typically whine more about Rafer taking a shot, Yao turning it over, Head turning it over, Yao getting abused by shooting big men, etc. rather than Tracy taking a shot on a guy who is playing off of him expecting a drive.
