with the talk about Kidd recently I was thinking about the history of the rockets point guards..

I found out that our alltime leader in assists is Calvin Murphy - 4402 total assists. However, he averaged more than 4.9 assists only twice and those were 7.3 and 7.4.

For a franchise with such a rich tradition of centers, we really don't do well with the point guard spot...

We really need a longterm fix at that PG position....

Our best PG could not cross the white center court line without first trying to snort it.

Yeah, the last decade has not been kind to us when it comes to PG's, outside of the Franchise years

forgot about lucas - but he only had about 2300 assists as a rocket, so still would have had to collect quite a few more to get to calvin's level.

Murph was the only one who got to play for enough years. Lucas/Lloyd were cut short by the white center court line. Kenny spent too much time in Sacremento. Cassell was traded after year 3.

We actually lost Lucas as compensation back in the 70s for signing Rick Barry I think.

Kindof Hazy..but I think that is what happened.

I remember him in the Eastern conference playoffs being called for charging and the other guy was moving...cost the team the playoff series.

Zactly right; I want to say that we only had Lucas for one year and lost him-- maybe two. He came back later after rehab but was never the same player.

Our history of big men directly lead to a history of shoot 1st point guards. How about Phoenix for PGs. I think they had Kidd, Nash, and Johnson all at the same time.

If you are talking about his second stint with the Rockets he was still pretty damn good. Lucas was the perfect point guard for Ralph Sampson and Akeem. If he had kept his nose clean...we would have beaten Boston in 86.

BTW, Sleepy Floyed was pretty good, but like Calvin he was really more of a 2 guard that was pushed into the point guard spot because of his size.
