Anyone else addicted to this game? It is based off the popular Tower Defense games, so I guess it isn't surprising that it is addicting. Here is a trailer for the game: A more in-depth preview video from 1UP: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/17248 It is being sold for $8 on the US PSN Store, although I think this might be a limited offer (may even be over now?). There is no demo on US Store, but the Japan Store has one IIRC (in English I think). If you liked the previous TD games, you should like this game (mostly why I got it). It seems to be a bit more difficult and it has more depth than most of those games (at least the ones I tried), so it isn't easy to finish in a short amount of time (and even if you do, there is the replayability factor, like going for rainbows on every level). If it sells well, I think they'll add some more content (forgot exactly what though). A PSP version may be possible as well, although as the videos showed, you can use Remote Play to play it on the PSP (apparently it works pretty well too). Some tips that I wish I knew when I started: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/01/16/pixeljunk-monsters-set-to-launch-next-week/ FYI, the guys that made this game also did the Earth visualizer for the PS3.
this thread is lonely, here's a bump. a loong looooong bump. first impressions, i thought this was a lame tower defense rip off from warcraft 3. after spending a hour on the demo, i was wrong. i started to enjoy the game and purchased it today. although there is some minor differences, this version is fun in a challenging way. in wc3 TD, you automatically gain gold vs the monsters dropping gold. this is annoying to me because sometimes the monster trails are long and the gold drops on the trail. i am unable to reach the gold in time because all the monsters aren't killed yet and it disappears. leveling up. there are two ways to level up your tower. one way is to use the gems you gather for a instant upgrade. the other is to stand on top of the tower and watch your little guy dance. dancing slowly gives the tower xp. the higher the level the longer you will have to dance. co-op. co-op lightens the difficulty. one person can explore the tree's for hidden gold/gems and level up the towers while the other person build towers and gathers the gold dropped from monsters. i think this game might be meant for co-op because both modes (1 or 2 players) play exactly the same (on easy). single player is a little difficult with all the multi tasking. strategy. in single player, you don't have the luxury of keeping your character idle. you have to decide what type of towers you want to build and which towers you want to level up. gather the gold dropped from monsters. explore the surrounding area for hidden treasure. the replay value is tremendous. there are many various ways you can finish a stage. i played the first stage over ten times and incrementally got better each time. every time i played, i tried a different strategy until i find one that works best. some people are satisfied if they can finish the level with a rainbow. for me, my goal is to score in the top 500 for every stage. complaints. on the title screen, the letters are brown and the icon selector is just a tad shade darker. it is difficult to see what you're selecting. they should've change the blinking icon to a different color to make it easier for old people with bad eyes like me. gold gathering. i understand it adds a element of strategy when you have to decide how you should spend your time. they should've made the gold system like wc3 TD's system for single player. the gold should automatically go in a pool instead of you having to run out there and gather it. in two players, this isn't a issue. online co-op. where is it? score board. they should add the flag for the region that user is from like in super stardust hd. i notice this is a problem with some online score boards. they need to make it mandatory where you can view the scores from all your friends, not just the ones online. can any of you guys beat my rank 219 on the first easy stage? =p like i said, i just purchased this game so i'll get cracking on the other levels soon. updating score. instead of it constantly reading score updating, it should stop and say score updated when it's done. instead, it just constantly reads updating score and i have no idea when it's finished uploading. is this guy a turtle? he walks so slow. if he was able to move a tad quicker, it would be perfect. instead i find myself rushing from one place to the next. i have 4-5 psn games and this is by far my favorite one. if you're a fan of tower defense or strategy games, definitely give the demo a try and find out for yourself if this game is for you.
You get a power-up after beating the first special level that speeds up your character whenever you hold 'O'. That's a really important power-up in this game. I'd probably try to get it first before trying to get rainbows in the other levels (or whatever you're aiming to do).
i guess you can't find the game? it's on the first page, on the top left half or top right half section. you can also find it under download > games > new. i rushed through easy stage 2, 3, and 4 to get the boots. i haven't tested them yet, but is the item permanent?
Yeah, anytime you hold 'O' from then on, he'll run faster. You get another special on the medium difficulty which is permanent as well, although I haven't found it as useful as the boots. That's partly because you need 5 gems to use it though, and I like using my gems for other stuff. I haven't gotten very far on the hard levels to know what its special is like (if it has one).
You mean this store? http://store.playstation.com/ If so, it wouldn't be there. I think they only put PS1/PSP games there. PSN games for the PS3 are only available through the PS Store that you access on the PS3 (after all, you need a PS3 to play it).
