I say the kid is for real. I am really blown away by his performance tonight. He is playing before friends and the college team he played with last year. That is a great deal of pressure. He is rookie, more pressure. This game is critical, the Rockets are losing it, more pressure. What did he do? He won it for them. That's something. Yes, I saw some defensive lapses (no more than TMac or others), but offensively he was extremely impressive in all aspects of his game: dunks, lay ups, mid-range jumpers. Wow. He rebounded, blocked shots, he made big free throws. How impressed are you? Is he Baby Amare?
This guys is legit!! He has incredible quickness and leaping ability. The guy also finishes everything around the rim!! Nice form at the line, solid defensive skills, and it's his first year!!Combine all these attributes with his passion.....you got yourself a player!!!
I wouldn't go as far to say Boozer, or even C-Webb because he doesn't really create on his own, he takes advantage when Tmac and Yao PnR which leaves him wide open
I think we got a real steal in Landry. I could see the kid become something very special in a Rockets championship dynasty w/ Yao.
I think he is a perfect fit for Yao and Tmac. Yao is always doubled, so he can get open shot. Tmac passes the ball to inside well, so he can get easy basket.
He is for real, but I am uncertain how good he could become. His major limitation is his height, which might affect his defense.
He needs to stop coming out so high on those PnR's. If he could just stay a bit closer to his defender he perhaps would be able to recover, but since he comes out so high, he is unable to get back on help defense causing either an open shot/layup or Yao having to cover his ground and getting a foul. He isn't that bad defensively, but he just needs to fix some obvious problems but overall he should be alright.
From NBAdraft.net Weaknesses: Height leaves a little to be desired at 6-7 to 6-8, he may struggle to effectively play the post in the NBA … To compound matters, Landry is just an average athlete not able to outjump his opponents nor explode off the floor offensively … Conditioning and stamina are still points of concern as he can appear winded at times … Not a great rebounder out of position … When defending bigger players, Landry can be prone to picking up quick fouls due to being overly aggressive … Defensively he lacks the explosiveness to be a shot blocker on any level … While kind of a tweener, his lack of consistent three point shooting and sub par perimeter defense will inhibit him from playing the small forward position … In the post, Landry will allow his man too much space and does a poor job of denying position … Potentially he is near his limit … Matthew Maurer - 4/3/2007 Boy was this guy off!!They mentioned he hurt his knee in college and didn't have the explosiveness until this year. This is why players like him drop in the draft.
Let's not get carried away. Remember that teams don't know who Carl Landry is just yet. With Carl's play lately, though, I think that it won't take them long to have a scouting report on him.
Damn. Bill Walton just now gave Carl Landry some love on ESPN for helping the Rockets get hot during our recent stretch of wins as well as recognition for his 9-11 performance tonight against the Pacers.
Carl Landry just gave props to carl landry for his perf. in tonight's game in bill's 3 pointers segment..on the knicks/blazers 1/2 time game. He is also talking big game about the lakers being top in west and challenging SA now b/c of P.gasol
