I'm so sick of Rockets spin.

    A. It was a close call between Landry and Davis.
    B. Landry was a steal!

    A. We nickle-and-dimed Landry for months.
    B. We always believed in his bright future!

On the latter point, there will be consequences.

The front office was probably going off the Summer League where he pretty average.

What baffles me is they thought enough of him to spend a million dollars to get him...Rockets gave the Sonics a mill and a future 2nd round pick to get him.

Don't forget the shoe deal! If he stays in Houston he will have a shoe deal for sure! :D I am very happy for him, I watched him play through his college career!

How else are the Rockets supposed to handle the situation right now? In the offseason, the Rockets thought they were making the right personnel decisions by allocating their money for guys they thought could contribute more than Landry would this year. And I really don't think Landry is holding it against them now, since he is getting ample playing time. Besides, we guaranteed is contract in the end anyways, so how are we going to pay the consequences for it? I just don't think there really is any other way TO spin it if you're the Rockets. The guy has done more than any one of us thought he would.....everybody benefits from it.

He ain't getting no shoe deal. Too many Rockets have shoe deals and the market is saturated.

He might get a deal for oversized hats, though. I've been to China and seen some big-headed folks there.

Someone may offer him more than the Rockets are willing to pay, but we can match any offer.

Time to ship out Mike James and Synder to keep Landry.

And that's probably unlikely. Who's going to overpay for an undersized second rounder? Unless Landry absolutely explodes onto the scene in the playoffs or something, it should be easy to retain him.

Again with the undersized. What would make you happy? A 7 footer?

Exactly, since when is 6-9 250 undersized PF in NBA??

Just because Purdue choose to list him at 6-7 for whatever reason doesn't mean he is undersized when he is 6-9 in shoes.

I know a lot of teams have 6'10 -7ft PFs now but 6'9 is still legit PF height

I remember Purdue playing UA and i say their linup with landry being 6'7. I thought, UA would wreck their front line...sadly ladnry was much bigger and stronger than the players listings lead to believe...he completely dominated the paint :(

Landry is 6'9'' in shoes, but he is undersized because...

he has a big head and short arms. During pre-draft measurements, his standing reach measured out to be 1 inch shorter than Chuck Hayes'. That's why he can be considered undersized.

Landry measure in at 6-7.75 barefoot, which is decent enough height for a 4, but not particularly impressive. However, his standing reach is only 8-6.5. For comparison's sake, Chuck Hayes measured out at 8-8.5.

When a guy is on the lower end of the height spectrum and is a bit alligator armed, I don't think it's a reach to call him undersized.

One other thing I should mention -- in the event Landry does blow up or wants to negotiate a decent deal, we'll have to dip into our MLE. Since Landry is just a rookie, we have no early bird rights on him. If we were to use our full MLE on someone else, we wouldn't be able to match an offer for Landry that was above base pay.
