Thanks to Roxfan73's thread yesterday about the $9.99 flights to Mexico from Austin, the wife and I are taking a trip to Cancun this summer. Neither of us have ever been and don't know the resorts. I was looking for some recommendations. Certainly not looking to break the bank. We're staying for 3 nights. I'd like an all-inclusive, but that's not necessary. Any help would be appreciated.
Go to Maya Riviera. That's where I will be sitting on the beach drinking a margarita (or 12) 18 days from now. Not that I'm counting or anything...
Since you are on a $9.99 flight, I would recommend looking at resorts in the middle of the Gulf because that's probably as far as it's going to make it.
Haha! That or a maybe check into shelters in the greater Cancun area. From what I've read of those Cancun charter flights, there's no guarantee it will be able to fly you back home either.
It's an airline that is doing this deal as a kickoff to beginning service out of Austin direct to Cancun and Monterrey. Not a charter flight...an actual commercial airline.
We stayed at the Xpu-ha palace south of Playa & lovrd it. I have to agree that staying South of Cancun near Playa s much better than staying in Cancun. Cancun is just another Miami.
Thanks, man im thinking about going to Playa Del Carmen this summer. You cant beat that price it comes to under $300.00 for two roundtrip tickets.
Iberostar Pariso Maya is awesome. Tons of food, bars, and even a club and market place inside the the resort.
You can email me privately if you wish, but I will tell you here that the Westin Cancun Resort and Spa sucks ass. I've stayed in nicer places in Corpus Christi. Plus, they treated my wife like crap.
i agree w/ those who say go south of cancun - mayan riviera. playa del carmen. i went to cancun in 2006 - ive traveled all over mexico and its probably my least favorite city. its really plastic, americanized, expensive and cheesy. dont get me wrong, if you are into the party-scene stuff than you will love it, but its just not for me. awesome beaches though. i would recommend to anyone to go to xel-ha - its like an eco-schlitterbahn. billed as the worlds largest natural aquarium - you get snorkel equipment and swim around with all these tropical fish. i had never done real snorkeling like that, with good fins and everything. never realized how much ass you could haul with some good fins. tulum is pretty neat too if you are into seeing some ruins, but chichen itza is even better.
