damn, that sucks. how many of you are left? that's why i like to get people's money before anything is set in stone. i passed on your hotel info to a couple of people i know who are going. they're staying with a bunch of other people too but who knows, maybe they'll want their own room.
T-Bone had a legitimate excuse and let us know last week. He's gotta work since he missed a few days last week because of the weather. The other two? Well, I'll bite my tongue (or my fingers) because one of them posts here. The general consensus on another board I go to is that they should at least be on the hook for the original cost, which I agree with. BTW, e-mail me. My Outlook crashed and I lost a bunch of addresses. Wednesday night BW3? UT v. A&M.
Four of us left. We can all afford it (even though now I'm having to push back the date I'm completely out of debt by one paycheck), but we literally went from thinking it would be $90 per person for the room to $260 in two days.
Hey RM95, can you shoot me an e-mail about the Mariott room? My address is aarojas at sbcglobal dot net Thanks!
surrender and I have been e-mailing back and forth, but there was confusion on the dates. Since Marriott won't let us cancel the room, any chance they'd let us move the reservation for one of the rooms up a night? Instead of Saturday/Sunday, make it Friday/Saturday? I know we just need to call and ask, but I'm waiting on info from the guy who reserved the room. Just curious is all.
just got back from N.O. yep, our hotel utilized the wrist band. we had to be creative about sneaking in our friends. anyhow, i was a bit disappointed with the food. went to Acme Oyster house...small portions and over priced. our fries were cold and the service was horrendous. definitely not worth the 30 minute wait outside the cold on friday. the only good thing were the raw oysters but everyone in my party agreed that the place sucked. went to Bubba Gump. not a bad place, the wait staff was a lot more attentive here. food was just so-so. went to Cafe Du Monde. this was the highlight of our eats. the biegnets are every bit as good as advertised. i had 15 of them over the course of our stay. went to cooter browns. again, the fries here were stale and they drenched my mufallata in olives. the great thing about this place was the beer selection. sad thing is, the best burger i had was at fuddruckers. the monsoon from Port of Call was excellent. oh yea, i freakin' missed Hulk Hogan on the float. he came right by our hotel too.
Going to Acme was a mistake. I've never been a huge fan of the place and have always wondered why it's so popular. You should've gone to Felix's. Wouldn't have been as crowded and has better food. Monsoon's are great. I have a lot of memories of waiting a few hours to eat at Port of Call and downing a few monsoons
One of the guys we went with snuck into hulk hogans balcony (he was at some party) or so that what he said. I was too wasted that night and got lost so I didn't see where he went. However New Orleans is not a good city. Some people there barely speak English and my friend got his camera jacked. Also the bead throwing got pretty bad. I got pegged in the face and I had to start trying to peg people back.
If you search the archives here, you'll find me touting New Orleans and Mardi Gras for a long time. New Orleans is.........was.......my favorite city in the nation. I haven't missed Mardi Gras since several years before Katrina---even went to the one right after Katrina when the city was very quiet. I still love the restaurants, and the vibe, and the fact that it "feels" different than any other US city. I love the music, the laissez le bon temp roulez attitude, and I still have a fond place in my heart for carnival there...... ...but........ this was the first time I was ever truly scared....on multiple occasions. Next year we won't be going back; if all goes well, we'll have our hands full with a six month old. But I don't think I'll miss what I experienced this year.
alot of it has to do with the idiots on the floats. they don't remove them from the bag and just hurl a big ball of beads.
I didn't mean to come off like that. I just find it to be safer and more enjoyable when you are either Uptown or in the Garden District.
