OK, not necessarily calls, but texts. The girl I'm dating is going to Australia for a couple weeks and I'm curious if there are any additional charges for text-messaging internationally. I figure we have enough Aussies on the board who should be able to know if there are any other fees.
I'm not sure about Australia, but when I went to China, I had to pay for every text I sent, even though I had a text plan. This was with T-Mobile.
Surprisingly enough, the T-Mobile web site has this information. "Send international text messages* Send your thoughts around the world with text messaging. It's the ideal way to make quick, quiet, informal connections anytime for just $0.15 per sent message—receiving domestic or international text messages while within the US or Canada costs $0.15 per message or pulls from your plan’s monthly message allotment (as applicable)." http://www.t-mobile.com/International/LongDistanceOverview.aspx
Just call your provider ahead of time and ask speciifically whether your current plan covers it. I didn't and got assraped to the tune of a couple hundred bucks over 2 weeks of texting for a trip to Europe...
I live in Australia and send text messages to the UK non stop all day. You find that they cost a little more than a local text message, but not so much that you have to worry about it. I guess like with every mobile contract these days, you should check what your deal does and doesnt give you. One thing that might be worth looking into is that some mobile providers have a special plan you can go on that allows you to call a selected overseas country for a much lower price than normal. Anyway champ hope that helps a bit.
Get Skype it is a free internet phone service...and you can put a measily amount of money in an account and make calls all over the world for under 2 cents a minute....and text as well. Very good service. www.skype.com DD
Agreed. Just go to Yahoo SMS and send as many text messages as you want for free. http://everywhere.yahoo.com/sms/sendsms You might need to go to Australia Yahoo SMS page to send to Australian numbers though.
Why do you wanna text her and interrupt her debauchery with ripped alcoholic aussies? She doesn't want to be reminded of you grampa. International drunk calls are the bomb!
Just text as per usual. When you get the bill if it really is outrageous call them and complain and tell them you had no idea. Tell them how much a valued customer you are to them and how they shouldn't charge you since you didn't know and its the first time it happened.
if u have tmobile just tell them ull be texting internationally for a month and thy will set u up with international texting for just that one month.
