There were two mistakes I saw Adelman make tonight: 1. Leaving Novak in for too long. At one time in the 4th quarter we had a lineup of brooks, Head, Wells, Novak and Scola. I was screaming at the TV --- OMG THAT IS THE WORST DEFENSIVE LINEUP EVER, and sure enough the Warriors reeled off 5 or 7 straight points forcing Adelman to call a timeout (which thankfully ended in Novak and Brooks being replaced by Battier and Alston). You'd think he would have learned after Sunday's debacle. 2. During one crucial defensive possession in the final minutes, he took Yao out but did not put in Chuck Hayes. No Chuck Hayes and no shotblocking + Baron Davis = easy quick layup. Other than that, the substitution patterns were excellent, and I thought he did a great job coaching down the stretch.
Dallas is not the team I am afraid of the most. We match up well against them. If it was not because Terry went on some crazy hot shooting streak late in that first game, we would have won that one. Yeah, it is very good now we have beaten some teams that had owned us bad, Warriors, Suns, and Jazz. The feeling being owned by some teams was terrible.
It has only taken two years for a Houston Rockets coach to figure out that a person who cannot make layups or do anything on offense other than set picks isn't really helping your team. Worse yet, Yao gets doubled whenever Hayes is in the game and the lane is clogged for anyone who wants to drive. Hayes is on the bench where he belongs. Chuck: Work on your offensive game or your gravy train in the NBA will soon be over.
You could tell Adelman spent all his time on the toilet (when hes doing #2) thinking about countering Nelly. Very good chess match tonight I agree. But I prefer the Phil Jackson mentality towards Nelly. Just play your game, punish them.
That is not very true. I think GS did notice the existence of Novak before it was too late. You know Novak made the first three shots when Yao was out. I mean, C'mon, there is a 5-5 on the offensive end and how come GS is not defending on him but leave him a big wide open space? Once they recognized that, Novak lost in the offensive end. ...But thankfully Novak made those several shots.
I think for a guy that shoots that well, we should run some plays. How about setting a pick for him and letting him dribble it in for the short J or dish off to the roller/popper, like we do with McGrady? Novak can shoot it on the move just as good as on the spot up.
RA is a good coach but we are just settign a too high of a benchmark 4 the guy geez guys plz cut him some slack
Well said. How many more games could we have won this season if Aldelman had taken Hayes out completely and put in a more offensive minded line up. Half way through the season and he finally makes a change. Damn! He sure is earning his money.
Adelman deserves his share of credit for the win, but anytime Rafer outplays Baron Davis our chances of winning are prettty high regardless of what offense or coaching decisions are made.
i think the reason chuck didnt play was because tracy didnt... t-mac seems to be the only one who can get him into the offense
Quoted for truth. I had the same thought with the defenseless lineup... and I think the reason he didn't have Chuck go in at the end was that he was completely cold having sat the entire game. Personally I would have still put him in (biased? maybe), because as much as Adelman seems to think Bonzi is a defensive threat... the man can't recover over a screen or help a team mate on a defensive rotation to save his life.
Yeah, a JVG coached team would never give up 100 points to GS....well except for: The first time we played them last year and gave up 118 points or The 2nd time we played them giving up 109 points or The third time we played them giving up 110 points Well, wait a minute that was all three times we played them last year....what was your point again. DD
Problem was, for the remainder of the time that Novak was in AFER he hit those 3 straight shots, he was still left OPEN several more times down the floor, but either no play was called for him, or the other players simply never even looked in his direction. I don't think RA suddenly told the guys to stop going to Novak - I blame the players for not recognizing they had a hot hand on the floor and failing to feed him the ball.
His other mistake was not switching someone else to Harrington when he got hot at the end of game. Simple logic, Harrington or Davis had taken the last 8 or 9 shots and no one else had touch the Rock. Better to let someone else on GS shoot the 3 besides Jackson than Harrington or Davis who were hot. Repeat after me, Yao cannot cover on the 3 point line.
Novak, wasn't open late in the game as they started rotating to him and once he got the ball he couldn't put it on the floor and drive past no one. That's why he took a 30 footer and took 2 dribbles and tossed up and air ball. Novak game is simple, get in his face and force him to put the ball on the floor. What's that I hear oh yea the buzzer, substitution for Novak.
