I disagree. The key is still their respective skill/value. Even if you have kobe, nash, garnett, and lebron, you can still use Yao's trade value to get player or couple players. Essentially the key is still Yao or Camby's individual value.

highly likely that Houston won't make the playoffs....
don't talk crap when our own team isn't doing too mighty
Anyways, Camby has been doing a majorly exceptional job this year. I would say he is only a bit less deserving than Yao to have that starting All-Star spot...

What are you b****ing about? I already said I agreed with you. My add-on was just for humor effect. Go b**** somewhere else.

Camby tonight: 3 pts 5 rbs 1 blk. All-Star numbers. New Orleans - 117 pts. Camby changed the game with his defense. Without him, N.O. would have had 150 pts.
Yao's worst game would never look like this.

I am calm. You think too highly of yourself if you think you can "uncalm" me. I already said my statement was only for a little tongue-in-cheek humor, and needs no serious response. I understood your scenario, and I agree with you.

I lost respect for Charles back in '98 when he said he would come back in the best shape of his life after they lost to the Jazz in the Conference Finals. When his fat a$$ showed up for training camp he was as big as a house. When asked by a reporter about the promise he made to be in better shape, he said "I flat out lied".

He's a clown, always has been. Who really gives credence to what a Stephen A Smith or a Charles says about anything? Unfortunately for Yao, he gets the least respect of any player in this league, by the officials and by the so-called "experts". As Yao has improved, the overall analysis has been more favorable, and this may be Yao's best year as a pro. The only way to really shut up guys like Charles is to win, which Yao has not done so far. Either way, the comment about Camby starting was idiotic.

Yes, and lets not forget another classic where Charles came out looking like a fool.

Here is a good point made by a TSN analyst. He is saying Amare should be the center reserve. Yao starting is a no-brainer.

http://www.tsn.ca/nba/news_story/?ID=228439&hubname=nba

"People can fawn over Marcus Camby all they want, but like Tyson Chandler in New Orleans, their value exists purely on a team basis, not an individual one. Their limited offensive repertoire could never be called upon to lead a team and at the end of the day that keeps them from being anything more than a secondary player, no matter where they play. Conversely, Amare may not be quite as effective without Steve Nash by his side, but pretty much any offense would still run through him. Combine his sheer force on offense with his nine rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game and his inclusion on this team becomes somewhat undeniable."

well,
no body cares about that TSN Analyst, you should start it as a new thread and see if it would go 17 pages like Barkley.

I never asked if you cared. And stop with the Barkley owns Clutchfans comment. We get it already. If I wanted to, I could say I own you because you replied to me. How stupid is that?

ROCKETS EXTRA/ROCKETS VS. SONICS: GAME 7/CHUCK CITY/Barkley backs up promise as Rockets end jinx

By EDDIE SEFKO
Staff

B-br-bring on the J-J-Jazz.

The Rockets overcame a serious, near-fatal, stuttering problem Saturday to advance to the Western Conference finals for the third time in four seasons.

After stammering and coughing up a 3-1 lead in the series, then watching a 14-point lead shrivel to two in the fourth quarter, the Rockets put away the Seattle SuperSonics 96-91 on Saturday at The Summit.

They used hard-nosed defense, a timely Matt Maloney 3-pointer and stellar play by the Big Three to survive Game 7, win the Western Conference semifinals 4-3 and exhale with relief.

Mayor Bob Lanier, who like 16,284 other witnesses at The Summit was drained by the end, put the gripping, exhausting capper to a riveting series in perspective.

"This was tougher than the Legislature," Lanier said.

When two teams are as evenly matched as the Rockets and Sonics, it's supposed to be tough. And it was. The Rockets came close to losing the equivalent of a four-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter, partly because of 3-for-8 free-throw shooting in the final 3:07.

But just as Charles Barkley had predicted after the Rockets lost Game 6 on Thursday in Seattle, the Rockets came back and won. It was the first time they have beaten Seattle in a playoff series after losing to the Sonics five times.

"That was a tremendous series," said Rudy Tomjanovich, who emerged from the locker room with his hair astray and a wrinkled shirttail hanging out. "They (the Sonics) looked dead. But they have heart and I feel fortunate to pull this thing out."

The Rockets have reached the NBA's version of the Final Four. And they have a supporter in Sonics coach George Karl.

"I think the Western Conference champion is going to win it all this year," Karl said. "I want to congratulate Houston. I think deep down inside we have a lot of respect for each other."

The Sonics were trying to become just the sixth team to rally from a 3-1 deficit and win an NBA best-of-seven series.

But Clyde Drexler had 24 points to go with eight assists and eight rebounds, Hakeem Olajuwon had 22 points and 13 rebounds and Barkley had 20 points and 14 boards.

The Big Three combined for all but six of the Rockets' 41 second-half points.

"The team we just beat is a great team," Barkley said. "The three best teams in the West were the last ones playing (the Rockets, Sonics and Jazz, who eliminated the Los Angeles Lakers in five games). That was a terrific, terrific series.

"Everybody always tries to put people down. But we didn't blow a 3-1 lead. They've just got a very good team. They could have packed it in after Game 4. But they didn't."

And, even though the Rockets got stuck on three victories and couldn't budge for two games, they found a way Saturday. The Rockets led 55-50 at halftime and Seattle had taken a brief lead early in the third quarter.

But when Detlef Schrempf's 3-pointer brought the Sonics within 70-67 late in the period, the Rockets responded by scoring the final four points of the third quarter. The Sonics missed their final seven shots of the period, then went 1-for-9 to start the fourth quarter. The 1-for-16 stretch coincided with a 14-3 Rockets blitz that put them up 84-70 with six minutes left in the game.

Everything was working for the Rockets. Drexler and Mario Elie hit 3-pointers, Olajuwon was whirling for buckets and Barkley seemed to grab every rebound. He had six in the fourth quarter.

But the Rockets had troubled water in front of them. After Gary Payton (27 points, eight rebounds, seven assists) hit two free throws, Olajuwon scored and the Rockets had less than five minutes between them and survival.

Must have seemed like five hours.

The Sonics went into their frantic, pressing mode and erased the lead faster than a stuck backspace key. An 11-3 romp included a Drexler turnover, four easy points by Hersey Hawkins and a 3-pointer by Schrempf.

Suddenly, the Rockets' lead was chopped to 88-83 with 2:49 to go. Maloney had missed two free throws with 3:07 remaining and looked like a confused rookie much of the time. But the veterans weren't much better down the stretch.

Drexler went to the free-throw line and made only one of two shots with 2:33 left for an 89-83 edge.

After both sides misfired, Shawn Kemp took Olajuwon one-on-one from the top of the key and was fouled as his layup trickled into the twine with 1:32 left. The free throw made it a three-point game.

But the Rockets worked the ball around and Drexler found a wide-open Maloney. The 3-pointer was perfect for a 92-86 lead with 1:17 left.

Maloney had struggled at times in Game 7, hitting just two of seven 3-pointers before that. But the shot was akin to a dagger through the Sonics' heart.

"The bottom line is, without Matt, we wouldn't have gotten here," Eddie Johnson said.

But they still weren't in the clear. Payton made two free throws and Olajuwon and Barkley missed for the Rockets. Schrempf got loose for a layup with 21.7 seconds left.

Now, the Rockets' lead was 92-90, but the Rockets had the advantage because the Sonics had to foul.

Well, theoretically it was an advantage. Drexler was hacked with 20.3 to go, but hit just one of two free throws.

"I don't think people realize what kind of pressure you feel on shots like that," Johnson said. "I was feeling it with him. That's serious pressure."

Down by three, the Sonics caught a break when Barkley fouled Terry Cummings with 19.1 seconds left. At a time when the Rockets hoped to have the clock run, the fouls seemed senseless.

But Cummings accommodated by missing the first of two free throws.

Again, Drexler was fouled. And with 17.1 remaining, he again had a chance to stash the game, but missed the second free throw, leaving Seattle within striking distance, down 94-91.

"I was very concerned," Olajuwon said. "You never really know what to expect in that situation."

What they got was Kemp maneuvering against Barkley on the left sideline. Kemp tripped and was nearly falling out of bounds when he launched a prayer from inside the 3-point line that didn't come close to going in, and Schrempf lost the rebound out of bounds.

Olajuwon got free for a last-second dunk to end it.

The frantic, final two minutes were a scintillating way to finish a game in which neither side led by more than six until the end of the third quarter.

The Rockets are making their fifth trip to the conference finals. They never have lost in that round of the playoffs, advancing to the NBA Finals every time and winning the title in '94 and '95.

This will be the second time the Rockets and Jazz have met in the conference finals, an encore to the '94 matchup.

I have heard every argument and made every argument in this thread. And still I have not been convinced that every and I underline EVERY Gm in the league including Golden State would take Yao over Camby.......I wish we could do a Poll, it would be great.

Not a direct Yao vs. Camby poll, but here's a recent survey of the league's GMs.

Who's the best center in the NBA?
1. Tim Duncan 48.1%
2. Yao Ming 33.3%
3. Dwight Howard, Shaq 7.4%
5. Amare Stoudemire 3.7%

Camby didn't show up in the top 5.
