Already not the highest scoring team, this really hurts the champs. I wonder if a trade is possible, but I don't know who they could get. Ching better be healthy because they're going to need him to be very productive. I have faith in the front office to pull off another barely noticeable move (like trading for Jaqua and Ngweyna) that keeps them on top.
i want to shout F like this tourettes guy <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gc4kzBd3CeM&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gc4kzBd3CeM&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
We lost Ngwenya AND Jaqua? Crap. This is what I don't like about FIFA's regulations ... it's so hard for up and coming leagues to develop because the Euros always end up snatching away all the good talent. Whether it's Africa, Asia or America, this is always what happens. They have to erect stricter barriers for transfers.
The problem isn't FIFA, it's MLS. MLS teams are now paying 1-2 players big bucks, then paying th rest of the squad around 30k a year. Would you stay here to make 30k, when you can make a lot more overseas?
MLS is going to have to make changes to try and keep guys like this in the league. They weren't world class or anything, but they were solid players that could help a team. It's easy to say that the salaries should be raised, but when most of the teams are losing money as it is that's not really an option. Things are getting better as teams get their own stadium, more sponsor money, and better TV deals though. Another issue is the league not being willing to sell players. Most players want to play in a league with better competition and better pay, whereas MLS wants to lock the players into contracts and keep them. Preston North End recently offered $3 million for Taylor Twellman (who's salary would have tripled) and it was turned down. Other players see this and it makes signing a short contract in Austria seem more appealing. As far as the Dynamo is concerned, losing these two guys hurts and I don't know what we can offer in a trade to bring somebody else in. They proved last year that they can make good trades though so I'll trust them to work it out.
Guys like Jaqua and Ngwenya are what make other leagues superior to the MLS. The EPL isn't chock full of guys like Rooney, Ronaldinho, and Lampard. What it is chock full of is guys that are solid contributors that can hold their own against any level of talent in the world. If the MLS wants to develop as a league, and keep guys around, they need to tighten transfer rules, start paying the players more, and have a better development system in place. I wouldn't blame anyone for leaving the MLS and going overseas. I mean, the Austrian league isn't even an elite league.....but they still have more drawing power than the MLS.
I think the league is getting there slowly but surely. Remember the league was only formed in the mid 1990's. I think we're about 5-10 years away from a much higher salary cap (or none at all) and a focus on teams instead of MLS as a single entity.
