Has anyone noticed that it is only Scola who really does a good job breaking down the opponent's pick and roll? I noticed that only a few players do this (i.e KG) where they would follow the PG and trap him around the pick ending with a broken play or a steal. I noticed that we have had a handful of critical stops this way. That being said, I think Scola will eventually take over the starting job because of his offense, hustle and heart. The only thing that is keeping this out of reach is a) his interior defense against legit 4's and foul trouble. I really like what this guy is offering day in and day out. Also, I was hoping that with Yao out least night, we could have shown another side of what was advertised with this TEAM before the season started........RUN, RUN, RUN.....I dont know if it was UTAH going back on transition defense faster or it is just we do not have the right personnel to become a fastbreaking team when YAO is out.
He's a great pick and roll defender. A great pick and roll offense shoudl still be able to exploit the type of defense he plays against the PnR, but we have such good team defense otherwise, and he is so good and fast at doing it and getting back to his man coverage, it works real well. Also, yes, our personnel is incapable of running. You did see what happened when Rafer/Tracy tried to run that 2 on 1 fast break in the first half, right?
