Yes, if the Classic Rockets key fob doesn't tip them off, then my constant wearing of Rockets shirts and yelling at the TV when they don't play well does. My family and close friends know that when they don't win, leave me alone and give me time to get over it. If it's the playoffs, just leave me alone until I start talking again.
Yep, in my family they know that my passion is basketball and especifically the houston rockets, in college they dont know how the rockets are doing in the standings, but I sometimes wear rockets stuff like: jackets, t.shirts, sweatshirts, etc. And they know that im a big fan of the rockets. Especially here in Mexico, because they dont follow basketball, so you dont see people wearing rockets stuff, just me, so they know. Also, in my hi5, msn messenger, and my desktop, are pics of the rockets.
All the peeps down here know I am Rockets fanatic. My work out room is furnished with Rockets picture frames and my prized Officially signed Hakeem Olajuwon MVP season basketball. I take a lot of heat because of it, I live down here in Rio Grande Valley where the Spurs rule .
No one really knows, then they notice the Vernon Maxwell magnets on my fridge. The original newspaper front page for the 1st championship laminated in the garage. little clues.. the book shelves have books by Rudy T, Charles Barkley.. little clues my autographed ticket stub says "AKEEM" little clues
My answer would be no. Very few people in Europe care about the NBA (at least to the extent I do) and if they do, most of them (who are few to begin with) are either fans of some specific player or just bandwagoners. I moved recently and when I started b****ing about the internet connection because it is slow and has a freakin' 10gb (we are 5 people) monthly limit and therefore I can't watch the NBA, one of the guys said: "I'm not really interested in twenty guys running after a ball..." Just wow. I wear a Rockets hoody pretty often but I suspect that when most people see the word "ROCKETS" on my chest, they think I am some wanksta-science freak combination. I may be alone in this but this is something that really irks me. It doesn't matter if it is about sports or entertainment but I hate when somebody who hasn't seen a single race in his/her life asks me: "So who won the F1 GP today?" What?! "X won." "Really? Which one was Michael Schumacher?" "Retired 50 years ago, idiot..." This happens to me fairly often. When anyone asks me about something that they obviously couldn't care less about just to make it seem like they are interested, I want to punch that person in the face.
i almost wanted to fight someone at work because of his hate for the rockets. he says he's a "basketball fanatic" but that he hates houston. and he's FROM houston. weird.
lets see... I have Rockets bed sheets i wear a Rockets ID lanyard at work I take vacations/personal days to go to games, switch days for other days I can't my parents blame my debt on the Rockets I've been to Miami/Dallas/San Antonio for road trips when they played the Rockets I own a Stromile Swift jersey I never wore because I bought it at a 50% off sale at the Toyota Center, a month later he gets traded found a way to get Season tickets the past 2 seasons while being in debt my ex-gf hates me for loving the Rocket so much, yet she still comes to games with after we've broken up I've meet various posters/fans that thought they were hardcore fans, until they met me but I think The_Yoyo takes the cake for his mini trips to Houston just to attend a game thats all i can think of right now...
The people I associate are not basketball fans, many not even sports fans. So although I don't keep my fanhood a secret, many of them usually don't know(or forget) about it. Several people, when they're at my house and used my computer, would ask me about clutchfans. "What's this site?" "It's a Forum for Houston Rockets." "Why would you go on a forum for just a basketball team?" "Because I like them a lot." "......"
Everyone thats knows me calls me "obsessed" with the Rockets because to be honest, I think I am obsessed with them. The first year in college, all my hall-mates thought I was crazy because I pucked the television after the Rockets lost game 5 against the Mavs and my hand started bleeding. The next morning, everyone was like kept telling me I had a problem. And my family... Thats the toughest because they are all Laker fans and I have been hearing it for years now.
Family? They'd swear I was on the payroll! Friends? It's to the point that I can't show up at the barbershop after a loss.
well my dad was the one that got me started back in '86 so obviously my whole family knows i'm a huge fan. actually my entire family are pretty big fans, yes, even prior to Yao. we still have a Popeye's cup with allen level, buck johnson, akeem, sleepy floyd, etc. greatest cup!! a couple of years ago, i went back to read my notebook from senior year in high school (c/o '97) and 90% of the people mentioned the rockets in my book. i started to think back, was i that bad?? but yes, i was def the biggest female fan in my school. now that i'm at work, pretty much all my friends know i'm a fan. they talk college sports alot and when they want to tease me about the longhorns loss (not that many to recount ), it really doesn't phase me. i tell them my number 1 team is the rockets and even though i bleed orange too, that is my number 2 team. i have a hat, t-shirt, tank, several shirts (one SF autographed), horry jersey (for my 16th birthday 13 years ago), picture with Cuttino (too bad i was severly drunk at a bar), picture with Maloney (and his autograph from my first time to see him), a whole container full of newspaper clippings from 1992-1997, championship memorbilia, the replica championship rings (passed out at game 1 the following season), season tickets for the last 6 years minus last year since i was working overseas, picked my full time job 6 years ago to be near my Rockets (and family) and autographs from Robert Reid, Rudy T, Sam Cassell, Bill Worrell, Calvin Murphy, picture with Gene Peterson, etc. to end this, that game last night was just awful in the 4th quarter. still mad about that.
Just my close friends know I'm a fan of the Rox. I don't care to show I'm a Rockets fan to strangers or acquaintances. No need to overdo anything in public, you'll just look stupid. However when someone decides to talk Rox with me, other parties that were in the conversation knows to just leave cus I'll go on forever. I don't like to talk Rox to "casual" fans who don't know much about the NBA, much less the Rox. I also don't like talking to people who only knows the typical Lerbon, Wade, Kobe, Shaq, AI, Garnett. I'm sure you guys know how annoying this Aholes can be. My gf (who just so happens to be on here too) doesn't like it when I'm on here too much, especially when I'm on the phone or online or talking in person with her.
I voted other. My family knows I watch the games and such, but I don't think they realize the extent to which I follow the team. They also don't understand why I picked an NBA team a thousand miles from home to follow... but they agree to go to games with me when they are close to home, just cause they love me! Friends, they don't have a clue. My out of town/online friends are aware of my following of Chuck and the Rockets more so than anyone else. So I guess the answer is yes and no... hence the "other" category fitting me nicely.
I don't know your background of your Rox fandom, but did you start rooting for the Rox when we got Hayes? Not calling you out, just wondering. I know you have some serious bball knowledge so you must've followed the NBA for a while, just wondering when you started as a Rox fan.
Parents = Spurs fans Sister = Spurs fan Brother = Mavs fan Cousins = Mavs fans And if you see someone wearing red in Denton, bet your bottom dollar its me. You better believe everybody knows I'm a ROCKETS fan!
