I know everyone thinks carter will win and he has a great chance of winning but i think he might get to cocky/fancy/arrogant and blow it. Then again watch he will prove me wrong Nobody is looking at the other contestants. I think if mobley can throw some awesome passes and steve gets really creative he stands a good shot. dr. j says francis is the darkhorse canidate. others Mcgrady-awesome athlete good chance hughes- ditto, except not as creative stackhouse- maybe, good athlete, not sure of creativity ricky davis- great athlete doubt his chances though. ------------------ --TEX
You don't win the slam dunk competition without being cocky/fancy/arrogant. I just hope he can overcome Vince Carter-- a guy whose ability and hype will be difficult to overcome. From the way ESPN has been treating the affair, this competition is really about Carter.
Remember though Francis will have just played a full game leading up to the dunk contest, so that may be a big disadvantage.
It won't matter if Steve Francis does a blindfolded, reverse, double-pump, 360-dunk, wearing high heels and a dress. There is no way the NBA lets this opportunity to sell Carter get away.
I don't agree ThaCabbage, although we want to believe that the NBA will do everything they can to sell marketable players...... The Dunk competition isn't like that.... Larry Nance? BRENT BARRY!!!??? No No No If Steve does better he will win hands down. --Rocketman
I don't believe the competition is "rigged", but let's face it. Michael Jordan won in a year most thought Dominique should've won. Carter is the NBA's next grand-marquis player and they would love it if he won. ------------------ trade them all and fire the coach.
Lets not forget that Kenny "Sky" Walker also won. A young player from the Wolves in I-siah R-i-der won also. How about Harold Miner. Not exactly high Marquee players. I don't think the NBA could care less about who won the dunk competition especially since they don't exactly care for it too much. As appearant by all the two ball commercials. But I do believe that the judges could be already influenced as to who is already the winner by going with all the hype.
No, they're not marquee players, but they also aren't Jordan or a potential-moneymaker like Vince Carter. It's not about letting the marquee players win, but about hoping THE marquee player wins. Big diff... that being said, come on, there's no conspiracy. ------------------ trade them all and fire the coach. [This message has been edited by Dr of Dunk (edited February 12, 2000).]
Actually Francis would win if he did do that. Unless of course Carter does the exact same thing with a cartwheel.
Yea, but the only reason those guys (Rider, Barry, Miner) won were because there wasn't any one guy the NBA was putting its hopes on, in the contest. With Carter as the league's new sponsor/showman, they have to make sure he wins. Besides, Jerry Stackhouse and Larry Hughes are nice, but come on. Where are Kobe, KG, and Michael Finley? The league is obviously trying to lower the level of competition Air Canada will face. Franchise and Stackhouse still have the ability to hide it from being completely obvious, but this isn't the best group of dunkers in the league. Carter Francis Finley Bryant McGrady Garnett Now that is a slam-dunk lineup. What's this with Antawn Jamison/Ricky Davis? [This message has been edited by thacabbage (edited February 12, 2000).]
I'm not much for tall guys making the dunk contest... I mean really, outside of Larry Nance's dunk, what can they do that shows hops... they're already up there. (Nobody better bring up Tom Chambers). Shorter guys make the nastiest and most spectacular dunks. The 6'9" and under crowd. Also, anybody have a clue as to why Kobe wasn't named to the contest? Was it his decision? Injury? ------------------ trade them all and fire the coach.
hahahahhahahah clutch that is pretty damn funny shaqs acting abilites r even worse than his free throw shooting so are his "rapping" skills
Francis was actually the only one who had a 40 inch vertical, according to NBA.com. He leaped higher than Carter.
Francis will be the hometown favorite in nearby Washington DC next year...watch out, Vince! Old School ------------------ Just Build It!
