Can we all discuss LOGICAL reasons (See Depth Perception) why the Rockets don't seem to be themselves at home a lot. I can't remember the last time there was a nail biter at the end for the Rockets with us hitting big shots at home. It does happen but very seldom. This applies for Tmac too. I don't know where to find the stat but his FG % at home is significantly lower than Road.
Arena seating might have something to do with it, but you'd think that would impact our opponents just as much if not more than us. I think the quiet crowds is the big factor here. I think we also lack high-energy guys who feed off the home atmosphere, particularly amongst our best players. Battier is pretty steady, home and away.
Why hasn't Steve Francis been questioned about the depth perception problem he never addressed when he built the Toyota Center? Seriously, I am not sure. These guys know it is a problem yet they can't solve it. One issue I have is with McGrady making excuses for the poor shooting. When you start making excuses it means you accept the problem as something you either cannot or will not try to correct. I imagine when your best player starts making excuses it can trickle down to other guys on the team.
is it just me, or does the new court just not look as good as the old one with the paint being red and the out of bounds being red? but other then the depth perception and maybe the crowd, not sure why the shooting is so bad
They feel more comfortable (and because of it they play better) in a loud stadium, what something the toyota center isnt.
Please explain the depth perception issue. I live in the Dallas area and have never been to the Toyota Center.
Stronger gravity in the Toyota Center. Also, the water in the showers in TC is the hardest in the league which causes our players skin to become stiff and brittle. Add that to poor pressure regulation design in the TC which is caused by wind from the gulf and improperly installed venting mechanisms, the pressure within the TC in combination with the brittle skin caused by the hard water from the locker room showers causes the players to crack during the fourth quarter when the pressure in the TC is at it's highest. These are facts, and if you match them up against other stadiums in the league, it shows that we have the hardest water and the lowest pressure. Therefore it cannot be our team who was projected to do well by Hollinger and ESPN, it must be these other factors that causes us to lose. Also, Rick Aldelman ran over a squirrel who was the reincarnation of some evil gypsy's deceased child and she cast a curse on him. FACTS
it's basically a B.S excuse from my favorite player for poor shooting.. as its name implies, depth perception means that you perceive the basket to be farther away or closer to you as a result of the background elements (crowds, camera men, lights, UFO's, flying pointforwards etc..), so basically, he is saying that because the crowds are too far away, they confuse him and that's the reason why his shots are off in the Toyota center.. well, to go a few years back, he drilled 4 straight 3's in the last 35 seconds of the San Antonio game and the "depth perception" didn't seem to give him any problems.. why this came up recently is beyond my understanding..
if KG was on this team and heard someone say "depth perception" was the reason they're not winning at home, he'll probably go over there and punch the guy in the face.
Not saying this is the main reason but it would help if the games had more fans, louder fans and dare I say a sold out game. Living in Portland I get to attend many Blazers games and I swear the fans are so loud and many times its like they're the 6th man and will the team to victory. Watching the Rockets games on TV I can't understand why those lower bowl seats are always empty. That's some prime real estate. How much do those tickets go for? $150-200? Shoot I'd be a season ticket holder if I lived in H-town.
I can. It was just one week ago. Against San Antonio. I was there. The entire crowd was on its feet, too.
