home whistle can not prevent another loss from lakers. it was glad to hear some justice comments from JVG.
it turned out to be a great ending, not without controversy. the game clock didn't start after a stolen inbounds pass by the Lakers after making an offensive putback... kobe could have tied it after the steal, but the Cavs got the ball back for free throws. down by three, the Lakers choked again when they couldnt even get a shot off with 9 seconds left... JVG made up a great new term: the "verbal flop"- when a star player "yelps like a dog" and gets the call
i heard that too, JVG is one hell of a commentator. He and Walton are great, ABC needs to dump Stephen A Smith.
My favorite quote from JVG was at the beginning of the game. Ira Newble was defending Kobe, and Walton was on LeBron. JVG said, "I think the NBA should make a rule that the best players on teams should have to defend each other, if they play the same position." My first thought was, "Didn't you play Battier just so you could do the exact opposite?"
Am I the only one who thinks JVG's suggestion with extending the foul out limit (or getting rid of it altogether) is a good one? I haven't heard one good reason not to do that. If you want to penalize players who foul too much, give them a technical for every foul over 6 or something.
I completely agree. When one bad call against a guy can have him fouled out in crunch time and completely change the outcome of the game it is time to look at adjusting the rule.
IMO, you have to draw a hard line somewhere and 6 fouls is fine for me. I like the European rule of making technical fouls count as personals. That would reduce some of the nonsense we see on the court.
Why do you need to draw a hard line? It's not like teams are going to start fouling willy-nilly because there isn't a foul limit. All it does is weaken how players can play defense. I don't see how sitting players early due to foul trouble helps the game. Like I said, you could add an extra penalty (extra free throw) for fouls committed after 6.
Yes they will. Proof: Summer League. Players with 9 fouls? They tried to experiment with 6 fouls in NCAA. Result? More fouling. If you have more than 5 fouls in a NBA game. You can't play defense. Hacking everytime isn't defense.
You don't have to have a hard line. I prefer it because I think there are too many fouls called now and too many games are turned into long, drawn-out FT shooting contests. Changing the rule as you suggest would result in more fouls per game. How many more I don't know.
As I've said twice, give the opponent an extra free throw for every foul a player commits after his 6th. That's enough to deter it, and again you don't have to worry about your star player sitting after getting 2 fouls in the 1st or 3 fouls in the 2nd.
Lebron James is clearly the best player in the league right now. The scary thing is that he's still getting better.
One stat that's really in his favor as MVP is that the Cavs have more 4th quarter comebacks than any other team in the league, and LeBron is by far the high 4th quarter scorer in the league. Also add in that the Cavs were 0-6 with LeBron out of the lineup and 24-13 with him, there probably isn't another player in the league who's been a bigger factor in getting wins for his team.
Having Kobe and Kidd with him on the U.S.A. Team this summer did wonders for him. I think Kobe especially showed him what it really means to eat, sleep and breathe basketball. The man has a killer instinct now and has a legit shot as going down as one of the best ever. Of course, time will tell but I'm not betting against him picking up a few rings over the course of his career and putting up some half Jordan half Magic numbers along the way.
LeBron still is a poor shooter. His percentages away from the basket are down, including the free throw line. But he's basically improved in every other area. He's easily the best finisher in the game, probably the best transition player in the game, and I think he's actually become a very good defensive player as well. He played lock down defense on Kobe Bryant for most of the second half.
I don't know where else to put this, but 4 great endings today. Turkey-Glue's shot takes down the Celtics. Luke Walton's choke job in not shooting against the Cavs and the Lakers don't even get off a shot. Brandon Roy owning Joe Johnson the 3 final possessions and Kevin Martin, who is a cold-blooded assassin, impales the Sonics at the buzzer. He also had a wicked tip-in over Kurt Thomas off an inbounds pass with 1 second left on the shot clock with about 17 seconds left.
plus 1 for the utilization of the word "wicked" but yeah, great day for an NBA fan, horrible day for a Rockets fan: Jazz win Blazers win Warriors win Rockets loss back to being 2 games behind.. but hey, atleast the Fakers lost..
