We should bench our entire starting lineup so we have the best bench in the league. Can you imagine a bench of: PG: Alston SG: Mac SF: Battier PF: Hayes C: Yao No other team could match our bench, including San Antonio or Dallas. Bring on the Ginobili's and Stackhouses!!!
So first it was trade tmac, now its should he stay on the bench, then when the Rockets tear it up with him in the starting lineup, someone is going to start a thread asking if he should stay in the starting lineup. You guys are pathetic.
Why is he a YOF? What did he say about Yao in his post? Explain it. Mindlessly calling name on someone without a reason, is it the best you could do? No one is taking your comment to heart either.
gawd im sick of the Ginobili comparison. There is a total of how many teams in the NBA and all people can come up with is Ginobili? Did the Lakers sit Kobe and play Shaq only? Do the Rockets have enough offense without Tmac as a starter? How about the Spurs? Ginobili is no where as good as Tmac either. Only other player that comes close is Jason Terry but they have Devin Harris.
Tmac should stay on the bench. He plays much more efficiently when he is not a starter. He usually takes 24 shots to make 28 points in the past but now at least he is making progress. He uses less attempts to make the same points. So I would say winning is bigger than TMAC.
As long as he is not fully recovered, he should be from the bench. In fact, if we are leading big (20-30pts), he should take a full rest and avoid playing all together. If he has recovered then he could be considered for a starter again.
No McGrady shouldn't just stay on the bench. Forget Bullard's pushing of the idea to keep him there. We shouldn't be ready to "Stackhouse" him just yet. I don't think McGrady on the bench will last long but to weigh the positives and negatives: Positives: - Like Bullard said, it would help prolong his career by keeping him more injury free - This is the one I like most coming from Bullard - McGrady gets to sense the game and "feel" whats going on...which describes McGrady big time. He's all about feel good or bad, but its mostly good. I dont think he'd come into a game lazing it up from the start. He wouldnt be seen as a chucker but an initiator. It'd give him credit for team success but not as much for the losses. - It'll "balance" out the team. - Right now yeah it aint broke, don't fix nuthin. Negatives: - Rafer/ Head or Bonzi/Hayes/Battier/Yao as a starting unit still scares me, REASON ENOUGH. The team starts off too slow already. And the team is worse at finishing than starting even with McGrady. Why have your most versatile offensive weapon on the bench against the best teams? Start McGrady, but "bench him" the 2nd quarter
Luther can't wait to play williams....i like him on the bench. even mcgrady decided it would be best to come off the bench against portland. perhaps he may go for 6th man of the year (if the rockets keep playing well) since he missed all-star. it would be the first time he won that!!
I think it's a good idea to have him come off the bench. McGrady's developing great chemistry with the new players and is giving this team a better overall balance. At the same time, he can still average 35+ minutes and be in there for the game's important moments. Also, I think it forces the rest of the starters to not depend on McGrady so much and get into an offensive rhythm on their own, a problem this team has faced since last year. The problem, as other posters pointed out, is whether a Mac-less starting lineup can remain consistently competitive against other teams' best and not fall far behind in the first quarter. I don't know if it can be done, but I think it's worth exploring. Even if it means the Rockets won't have many fast starts, if they can keep things close, this could give them a distinct advantage overall.
Perhaps it is not a question of starting or not. It is a matter of limiting his minutes in the first 3 quarters so he can play at his best during the fourth. Is the rest of the team able to keep the Rockets in the game without him playing a lot of minutes in the first three quarters? Apparently the answer is yes (Seattle was a close call though...). In that case that is a great strategy. But it can backfire because the game might be out of reach in the fourth.
i like him off the bench at this point. he's getting his minutes and the most important thing is that he's gonna be there in the end no matter what. if we start to struggle getting off to good starts, then tmac should return to the starting lineup but as of now, i would keep him on the bench. but theres a big IF involved with this as well. keep him on the bench if and only IF TMAC AGREES TO IT. adelman should go up to him and tell him what the situation with him and and if tmac is fine with coming off the bench, the so be it. but if he prefers starting, he should be back in the starting lineup.
I don't get the fuss. Mac comes off the bench and gets starter's minutes. What's there to complain about? It seems to have worked for the last 4 games.
