The officiating crew tonight of: #62 B. Forte, #57 G. Willard, #63 D. Richardson is the worst. Absolutely worst I have ever seen. They called Scola for a foul once when he got pushed out of bounds. Yao got 4 fouls that were phantom calls. It's like they had blinders on their eyes. Horrible!
I've watched plenty of games and this deal with Yao getting all these phantom calls is bordering on ridiculous. It just doesn't make sense. Like what about that one foul where Yao just turned around to watch his man and didn't have any contact and got called for a foul. Like huh? What was that? That wasn't even a flop.
officiating in the NBA as a whole has declined severely in the last few years. It's gotten to the point where i expect Yao to be called for a foul for just looking at someone funny....
you got to watch NBA games with the same attitude as you watch WWE wrestling. It is not real, but you want your home team to win.
This game was particularly egregious. I've been at games where there were a couple of bad calls that made you scream at the ref, but .... When a blazers player gets fouled by his own teammate and Yao gets the call despite zero contact, When Luis Scola gets called for a foul for being shoved out of bounds ... It was hard to convince myself that somebody out there either had some money riding on this game or was just suffering from gross incompetence. You know what they say -- you shouldn't attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity, but it sure wasn't easy in this case.
You should have heard the Portland feed of the game on LP. They claimed they were getting robbed by the refs on almost every play. They did praise Battier and Scola regularly and the key to the defense.
Bad calls on Yao leads to bad calls on the other end by way of make up, which leads to more bad calls on Yao. This was an absolutely bizarre game. Yao and T-Mac combined for 26 points and the Rockets still won. I'd say a good chunk of the reason behind the weirdness was the officiating.
My favorite call was the one in the 4th quarter where Yao clearly stood his ground and stoop straight up while Brandon Roy drove and barrelled himself right into Yao and they called a 5th foul on Yao. Nicee....
That two hand pushing foul for Yao is non-existent. Pryzbella would've fouled out in the first 6 minutes, had they called every of his pushing on Yao. Really piss me off. Because of that shovel, Yao had to take those off-balance fade away. Then if he takes it strong to draw the contact, it's usually his foul.
Actually they jumped into each other. Which is indeed a foul on Yao. Even Bullard grudgingly agreed with the call.
Really? There was a lot of bad calls but I don't think we got particularly shanked by the refs...the inconsistent calls went both ways. By the by Blazers announcers are astounding. So that's what they're submitting those Portland fans to...
Yao looked like he jumped straight up to me. In which case it most certainly is an offensive foul or no call.
