i dont think this was a case of benching yao because of his play but because of his foul trouble. coach RA had a lineup that was playing pretty damn good on both ends of the court so he decided to go all the way with it. regardless of the situation if a certain group is playing well without one of their stars then why change it?(RA has done this in the past)....but i think he's finally realizing if something is working dont fix it
Hey whatever it takes to win man. If Yao is in foul trouble of course you sit him down. If he's getting burned by the defense, then you put in your quick athletic team and go to town on your opponent. Depends on matchups. I wouldn't say to bench him the entire game but vary the minutes. He's clutch in almost every situation but it depends a lot on how the refs are calling the game.
Bench Yao when playing against Warriors and Suns, especially on their home courts since obviously Yao will not get foul calls at all by those fronting and pushing.
benching Yao is defintely an option. our first game against utah this season boozer made yao his ***** yet again. yao got in foul trouble and scola came in, and utah miraculously stopped scoring. bench yao when we play agile PF's who can shoot and play Landry and Scola.
I found most people still don't get it. If you shut the layups for a perimeter shooting team, they will get cold very soon. That is how Rox defeated Suns in recent game. Let them shoot from outside and protect your paint. Nobody can be hot for a whole game just by doing jump shooters, even T-Mac, Kobe. So why bench Yao? What a stupid idea!
Well, most teams have a undersized-agile centers these days. I guess Yao might as well retire unless he's playing against Shaq or D12.
Obviously RA benched Yao because of foul trouble. Landry and Scola came through, and there was not need to put Yao back in. Don't forget Yao was a big part of the early 2nd half run that got us back into it. I think maybe we should think about putting Tmac on IR since this recent hot streak began with him on the shelf.... New Topic: Is durvasa's true finally showing?
dude, bull**** man, why don't we bench Yao wehn playing wizard (good PF), spurs (good PF), raptor (good PF), boston (good PF), etc etc? you are just a plain dumbass hater, look at Yao's numbers in the last 10-20 games, MVP numbers biaaaatch. where the hell were you when Yao was playing game, just cuz one bad game you are jumping all over him. i say you should get the **** out of this forum because you are not a true fan, just a plain hater.
Only an idiot would bench a guy putting up 22 and 11. Yao shouldn't be playing Boozer anyway, Boozer is a PF. I have an idea, why not play Scola and Landry at PF and have them guard Boozer, who is also a PF!
U dont GIVE up anything on defense. You have the guards or the small fowards FIGHT through that screen like Battier did tonight. Come on DD where are you to get on these ppl?
Benching Yao this game was purely situational. If Yao hadn't been so poorly officiated he would have been in the entire game.
I dont think its necessary to bench Yao just don't post him up against smaller quicker teams. We need someone that can penetrate and pass him the ball when he is closer to the basket instead of posting him. He can't really do much against smaller/faster guys when hes far away from the basket and usually he resorts to the fadeaway. Kobe used to drive, draw the double team, and then pass it to shaq for the easy dunk.
you're right. instead of guarding boozer, Yao should chase Okur around the 3 point line. holy crap why hasnt Morey made you coach of the Rockets?!
You have to consider it as an option. Tonight Yao was useless so when he got #5 Adelman just sat him and went with what worked. The real solution here is Yao needs to be able to establish position and seal his man behind him. Until he can do that he'll continue to have poor efficiency games or yes Adelman will bench him. Big only beats small if big is willing to be agressive and use the size advantage. Instead Yao opts for fadeaways and 10 foot hook shots when he's got one man on him, allows Michael Doleac to get in front of him, and waits for double teams instead of trying to score in spite of them. That's something you'd never see Shaq do.
Ummm, I don't know, the other team's center, in this case Okur. If he hits outside shots he hits outside shots.
