Ok guys, this will be my first trip to China. It is a business trip to Taicang & Suzhou near Shanghai. I am open for advice and suggestions about what to see, do & avoid.

    Thanks

uhh... Suzhou is not close to Hong Kong, are you thinking of Shenzhen?

I remember visiting a couple of historical gardens and temples close to Suzhou, and I thought they were pretty neat. Also, there is plenty to do in Shanghai if you have a chance to swing by there.

How long are you out there for?

I got to criss-cross the country for a few weeks this past summer - it was a good time. I'd say just take in everything you can and get a feel for the life out there. Don't even attempt to drive or bike on the roads - stick to cabs or car service. The negotiating bit is for real unless you're in a legit commercial store (and even then, give it a go) - I wouldn't try and chase super-great bargain buys with the vendors since you honestly have no clue what you're actually purchasing. Lean on your guide for advice - they'll take care of you.

shenzhen is like basically next door to hong kong. so either way :p it's not far. just go by airplanes.

avoid eatting at street vendors. i know they taste good, but probably get you sick. avoid skanky hoes. you'll catch bugs.

spend a lot money while you are there. so locals can make money off you and have a better life.

Be careful where you eat but be very adventurous with the food. Your business associate hosts will guide you. Tell them you want to try a lot of things most Americans avoid.
