Anyone gonna check out the San Jac game tonight? Two unbeaten teams going at it. According to the Chron Lon Morris has a stud that NBA scouts will be there to see, Terrence Thomas.

I may try to make it out there.

God, I envy you, Old School. I used to live 5 miles from the San Jac school, and I never missed a home game. But now I am in Dallas and never get to see them except when I visit my parents on a weekend when the Ravens are playing.

Please post here afterwards what the results are. As I understand it, the Ravens are pretty damn good this season (like always), and are #1 ranked.

It is easily the best basketball you can watch for the price, and surprisingly, it is never too crowded, so you can sit VERY close to the players.

    Raven,

Sorry to be the one to deliver the bad news but your Ravens lost.

Lon Morris rallies past San Jac

With Terrance Thomas, Lon Morris has Region XIV's best player. Now the Bearcats can boast that they are the conference's top team.

Even with the 6-7 Thomas having a subpar outing, Lon Morris rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit to edge top-ranked San Jacinto College 66-65 in a battle of previously undefeated teams.

The capacity crowd at Anders Gym on Wednesday night witnessed a finish in which the Bearcats scored 20 of the final 24 points. The deciding basket was a 12-foot jumper from Diego Romero with 2:31 remaining for the final points.

"A heck of a game," said Lon Morris coach Dale Dotson. "We got tired early and they got tired late. We had enough juice to come back and get it. Two really good teams and I didn't think either team played real well."

The game was the first for San Jacinto (13-1, 5-1) and Lon Morris (14-0, 6-0) since Dec. 8 following the holiday break.

Lon Morris, trailing 61-46 with 10:20 to play, limited San Jac to one field goal the final 8:20.

"On your home floor, when you have a chance to win it, that really hurts," said San Jac coach Scott Gernander.

San Jac's loss was Lon Morris' gain.

"We've been a second-half team all year," Dotson said. "We've played defense well all year, the kids really got after it."

San Jac, which hit only six of 16 free throws, had a final opportunity to win when the Ravens took possession with 8.9 seconds left after a 35-second shot clock violation on the Bearcats.

Marcus West inbounded the ball to Bryan Harrod, who drove to the basket but had the ball stolen by Lon Morris' Hardy Asprilla, who ran out the clock to set off a celebration by the Bearcats as about 50 Lon Morris fans rushed the court.

"I told everybody we were going to do it," said Thomas, who was named MVP of last year's Region XIV tournament won by the Ravens. "San Jac beat us in the championship last year. It's redemption."

Averaging 27 points a game, Thomas finished with 14 points on five of 16 shooting from the field. He went a little more than 20 minutes without a point as the Bearcats saw a 29-19 first-half lead turn into a 61-46 deficit over an almost 17-minute span.

Thomas, who in the first half made three consecutive 3-pointers, had only three second-half points. But the Bearcats got strong contributions from Romero, who had nine of his 12 points in the second half, and Aaron Curtis, who added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Derick Payne and Jeff Mailhot had a team-high 11 points each for San Jac, which was outrebounded 34-27.

San Jac's last field goal came at the 4:33 mark on a short jumper by Pedro Brito that ended a 12-0 Lon Morris run and gave the Ravens a 65-63 lead.

Asprilla made one of two free throws to cut the margin to 65-64, the only score other than Romero's winning basket in the final 3:10.

    Damn, that sucks.

If you ever get to see the Ravens play, then you know their coach is a little bit of a hot-head. I bet he was fuming towards the end of that game.
