This includes both games BTW. Some (older...as in the last week or so) HQ scans: Spoiler Some scans from the latest Famitsu (no HQ versions yet): The last one is apparently real-time (can compare with the earlier scans, which have the CG version of that character). When asked about a release, the development team gave a hint by saying they wonder when they'll be able to sleep. It seems like they'll have a media blitz for the game(s) in 2008, and they're pushing for a demo (unclear whether they meant PSN demo or demo for some public event). A translation from one of the earlier scans: We might get more from the Famitsu stuff. Those scans were just recently uploaded, as was some of that info. I haven't read any updates about the article in a while though, so I don't know if that was all the new stuff or if the people in Japan are too busy to provide updates. I think the next EGM is supposed to have something on FF13.
I'm really interested in their new real-time combat engine, which looked great in the old trailer. A full integration of action and story would absolutely be awesome. That said, way too early for me to start thinking about these games. Reminds me of Cartman waiting for the Wii...
Bunch of HQ scans from Famitsu: Spoiler I could only show 10 of these, so here are the other 3: http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/FF13-01.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/FF13-02.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/FF13-03.jpg I'm looking for any translations with useful info.
ever since ff7, my hype for each series has been dwindling. i would still purchase the final fantasy games, but never play them. ff13 on the other hand, is the first final fantasy i am excited about in almost a decade. i think we're going to see a similar leap like how ff3 was to ff7. can't wait for ff7:cc on psp, that's going to rock. i think it sort of plays like kingdom hearts? like a action rpg?
Nothing really useful from the translations so far, although apparently the interview section hasn't been scanned yet. From KTalllguy at NeoGAF: WtW Suzaku seemed to summarize some things
I still find it sad that we're amazed by stuff like this (or at least I am). Just give us some shots of some CG from months ago, throw in some realtime pics (possibly from the same time period), and a few vague statements about the game(s). FWIW, the FFX team is working on XIII (the KH team is working on Versus). I remember reading some interesting speculation on what the combat engine could be based on interviews and the media shown. Can't remember the specifics, but I think it was basically a way to create a fast-paced, cinematic battle sequence (similar to Advent Children) while still giving the player the typical RPG control. Something about picking a sequence of moves I think...maybe similar to White Knight Chronicles? Sort of like KH I guess, definitely more of a ARPG than the standard RPG from what I understand.
i guess i was the only person that LOVED the gambit system in FFXII? not only did it make combat a lot less tedious, it also added another level of strategy and customization. i wish they would keep the gambit system, but add a hot key swap for switching to ranged weapons (or whatever armor/weapon you like).
and is anyone else looking forward to Lost Odyssey for the 360 next month? it's the new rpg from the guy that led the FFVII team. looks amazing, but i'm a little worried about the load times for the radomn battles i've seen in game play videos. i'm not a huge fan of random encounters to begin with, and especially when you have to wait like 8 seconds for them to load each time. that doesn't sound like a lot, but that really adds up over 40+ hours of game play.
I loved the gambit system as well, and I thought most people did (don't see why anyone would not like it). It's not the guy that led the FF7 team, but the creator of the FF franchise and co-founder of the company itself (the Square part anyway). I think the last FF Sakaguchi had a large influence on was FF9, but I might be remembering wrong (think the last FF game he directed was FF5). Pretty sure most of the FF7 staff are still at Square-Enix. I might be forgetting someone else from SE that left and joined Mistwalker if you didn't mean Sakaguchi. I was initially excited about Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, but they both seem more generic (in certain aspects) than I thought they'd be. Might be because MS wanted them to basically copy Dragon Quest and FF rather than having the teams create their own, unique IPs. I might play LO if my friend gets it, although I don't really have much interest in it.
Some new info, not particularly groundbreaking but what else do we have? Taken from NeoGAF (credit to Maiki for translation I think?).
