I agree. Ed Norton is good. He's great in Rounders, too. Great movie.

A movie that typically goes under the radar was one of Ed Norton's first movies, Primal Fear. That movie was the shiznit and Ed Norton was awesome.

Robert Duvall also has the effect of making all the actors around him better. Actually, Morgan Freeman does the same thing, even though he's tended to play the same type of characters for awhile now.

The best thing about Depp is because he leans towards the strange and unusual. He likes the quirky movies, the darker films, the odd element. Yeah, sure he's pretty enough he could do a pretty boy film, but he specifically chooses against it. That's the draw, that's the hype, because he can handle anything off-kilter you can throw at him. It's what he's brilliant at.

That's why the Burton/Depp/Carter trifecta is so awesome. They embrace it and portray it better than anyone in Hollywood can.

Any of the main male leads in this flick are as good..

Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey... heck, Danny DeVito is highly underrated, as is James Cromwell. Don't get me wrong. Day-Lewis is superb, and Last of the Mohicans remains one of my favorite movies, but I don't consider him the best today. Frankly, I'm not sure who is the best today.

Lewis makes excellent choices in his films -- has he ever made a clunker?

Maybe DDL is not as naturally gifted as some of the other actors, maybe so, but IMO this is the reason that he has propelled himself into greatness. This dedication to his craft is second to none. That is the kind of dedication that very few if any can achieve solely because it interferes with thier lives. I would put Daniel Day Lewis next to any actor that has been said on this post, (DeNiro, Pacino, Norton, Hopkins, Depp) and feel confident that with his preparation he arrives more in character than any of them.

The Unberable Lightness of Being. That was by far the stupidest and artsy fartsy crap I've ever seen. Just 100% pure pretentious tripe.

and yes DDL is a great actor.

I believe Clutch wants the image hosted on your own personal web space, site, etc. So Photobucket and the like are good. After you have your picture's URL place it between theses two tags :

    Jack Nicholson:
"So I mean it when I say that if you can't appreciate Brando, I wouldn't know how to talk to you. If there's anything obvious in life, this is it. Other actors don't go around discussing who is the best actor in the world, because it's obvious - Marlon Brando is."

Or was. But still, no one comes close all-time. You have your Lewis, your Depps, your George C Scotts... just no. It's Brando.

Charlie Chaplin can do Brando roles in fact isn't he a communist??? If you watch his talkie films, he seemed more menacing than the slapstick style he usually does... Oh i forgot one more actor to that list... Toshiro Mifune....

Communist? What? No. Um, he liked sex a lot and he may have given it equally to many people but that doesn't make him a communist. He was even in his prime during the whole HUAC McCarthy debacle.

    Definitely pro-American Indian though.

No love for Keanu Reeves?? j/k

I think it is sad that it took to the 4th page of this thread for someone (Deckard) to mention Kevin Spacey. That guy is absolutely brilliant as is Pacino, Seymour Hoffman, and Nicholson. And even though his personal life is making more news these days thus overshadowing his acting roles, there was a time where Tom Cruise wasn't that bad of an actor.

Yet I still think that De Niro is the greatest of all-time. Day-Lewis is good but I don't think of him on the same level as De Niro.

I think DDL is probably the best right now. Other people have mentioned a lot of great actors that are out there as well. I would say Cheadle, and Hoffman are really amazing as well.

DiCaprio can be hit or miss. Depp is better, in that Depp could play any role DiCaprio has played, but DiCaprio could never play Depp's role in Peter Pan.

DDL was totally different in Stars and Bars than any of the other roles I've seen him in.

Peter O'Toole is the only person living that I would put on that level right now.

Speaking of Will Smith, was watching a bio on him today and he actually was offered the role of Neo but turned it down. I think keanu played it well but Smith would have been interesting.

I like Denzel, but he seems to be in the same type of movies, never really strays. Tom Cruise is an excellent actor, but of course his personal life has overshadowed his career now. And I think I Am Legend was probably the defining moment for Will Smith, more so than any other films; he has really matured as an actor.

Now here's someone that I don't think has been mentioned...Matt Damon. Like Ed Norton, every single movie he's done he's been excellent.

Haven't seen too many of Daniel Day Lewis' movies, but the ones I've seen he's damn good.
