bad calls, phantom fouls, bad no-calls....just curious... are the rockets a victim of bad refereeing, or does it just seem that way because as fans we're biased?

Yao is a bad victim. He gets fouled so much and so often but because he is so be he often absorbs the contact without a call from the refs. The guy should get 15 free throws a game. Other than Yao, I'm sure the team is on par with every other team.

I think a lot of it reallly isn't that we are a victim but expecting the refs to call everything and that's just not realistic. You have to play in a way that you win no matter how the game is referreed. You have to make the ref's work for you, not hope that refs will do the right thing.

When you got Yao you are a victim, he just don't get the respect, especially late in game where every superstar get the call.

T-Mac doesnt get enough calls on his drives, as some say maybe because he doesnt try to initiate the contact. Yao is, well, Yao. He gets fouled a plenty with no call. The thing is, Yao has been officiated better on the defensive end. They finally quit rewarding so many little guys for crashing into the brick wall. Only if he brings his arms down will they call a foul when he is stationary.

latter, i dont think anyone will start a thread protesting the no-call on the bonner tripping on the last possession

If you blame the referees for your losses, it's probably cause you are not a very good team.

I thought there were a bunch of bad call and no calls this game. One of the worst had to be Duncan's body block on Battier which left Ginobili open for the three. If that isn't a moving screen, I don't know what is. Are the refs that blind??

Thats because most of the time they dont make an error big enough and late enough to be more than an annoyance during the course of a game.

Closest I have seen this year would be the back to back bad no calls when Yao got stripped late against the Hornets.

Good timing for this poll; it's right after we play against Ginobili, Bowen, and Oberto...crazy floppers.

we, and every other team, are probably all victims here and there during the season, due to the incompetence of the refs. some bad calls/non-calls hurt more than others, but they tend to even out b/w teams.

but in the last few years, i think the rockets have probably suffered the most due the fact that yao is our center. even with the rule change, if ref'd properly, yao'd score 15-20 points just from the line. and i am serious. that's how bad it has been.

i'd say there are certainly a few teams who get away with calls more then others but i doubt we're any more victimized as a team then average.

that said, yao is continuously just abused and since he is our #1 option and so much of the offense goes through him it's probably impossible to overestimate the impact referees have on our team. if they allow a defense to what they want to yao then it's almost as if we're playing 5 on 6 and it effects far more then just a couple missed calls here and there.

The annoying thing about the way Yao is reffed, is that he doesn't get it back on the offensive end like Shaq used to. The refs would let players hack at Shaq all game long, but when he was on offense, he was allowed to lower his shoulder, knock his man back/down, and dunk it. The most Yao is allowed to get away with is that spin move where he hooks the defender with his front arm.
