really? he got off on that FEROCIOUS dunk w/ 2:24 mins left. so i'm assuming with just ANOTHER minute, he was about to die and miss fts? yao choked. simple as that. move on. it's one game. he won't do this often (he has done this only two times this yr where he missed both fts down the stretch). we won.
gotta say that im glad he missed the free throws, otherwise shane wouldn't have made that steal/rebound that ultimately lead to us winning the game. im a bit dissapointed in the fact that rafer missed one of his two free throws. for a guard who's game should be centered around driving to the rim and drawing contact (obviously rafer isn't the driving type..) he should shoot at least 80% considering how many times he touches the ball.
Nervous? Over-Excited? Tired? Choke? Unclutch? Give Big Yao a break....... The Big Man gave his all, played the longest minutes of all Rockets on the court, instrumental and crucial on both end of the court........... Yeah he missed 3 consecutive free throws. But as the Big Man confidently said: it is unusual !! And most importantly, the bottomline was WE WON !!!
Actually... Honest to god. I think Hakeem had a lot to do with it. Yao's slow start too. After working with Hakeem Yao felt nervous performing in front of his tutor. Any center respects Olajuwon, they realize how "out of the box" his moves were. I definitely feel this was a factor. Not a bogus thread or concept by any means.
That does some sense. I do not think he is nervous at FT line. He made many FT before at the tense time. I think the first of three missed FT is due to his overexcitement. LOL. But the last two might be he is distracted by other things after the big excitement monement.
Well for whatever reasons he missed those consecutive free throws, Yao Ming said after the game that it was unusual that he missed that many free throws, and he's going to practice 100 to 200 more free throws the first thing tomorrow.
Anybody here who wouldn't trade Yao in his prime for Shaq in his prime, please stand up. If it's true he was more aggressive tonight (I haven't seen the video yet), I'll take that in exchange for missed free throws any day.
He threw it down on Duncan plus the foul. Very good. The fact that he missed 3ft with the game in the balance is not very encouraging to me. We left the door open far too long. I don't know whether to pin it on excitement, fatigue, or just being not clutch. He's not gonna be Nick Anderson, that's for sure.
IMHO, this whole issue of dissing and bashing Big Yao to be not clutch, choked and soft for missing his consecutive free throws is absurd and asking too much from the Big Man. WHY NO ONE is saying Tim Duncan is not clutch and is soft? If you guys had watched the whole 4Q, you'll know Tim Duncan also missed his And 1 free throw as well as a completely open look mid range jumper in the paint .....all within the 1.30 to 2 minutes mark, when the Rockets was hanging on with a 1 point lead.
